Don't see why not. It fits inline on the hose and does not connect to the filter itself. Just be sure you get the one with the barbs that fit your hose size. I have one on the outflow of my Eheim 2028 and it works great.

isn't the 405 hose ribbed?

I think that the Hydor fits a 5/8 inch hose. What is the diameter of the 405 hoses? I have the 305 and the ribbed hoses are a PITA. I haven't been able to connect my Hydor without it dripping.

the hose is ribbed yes. at the lfs where i work, the owner suggested betting two of the end caps for the hoses and using them to connect the heater, with contact cement of course lol.

I have a Fluval 304 (same tubing, I think) with a Hydor inline heater. You have to use a different hose from the output of the canister to the intake of the heater. Then from the output of the heater, you can use the Fluval hose, as long as you use the end of the hose with the factory rubber, not the cut ribbed hose side.

When you connect a different hose to the Fluval, you'll need to use a hose clamp. I use the stainless screw-type hose clamp, works just fine.

+1, hydor eth needs to be used with regular hoses

Here's a picture. One "regular" hose, one ribbed Fluval hose.
