What seems to be the choice of water conditioner if a RO unit was not needed? I've been reading some reviews on Prime. But many of them disliked the smell..............

Prime. Just don't sniff the bottle. Once it's in the water there's no smell.

I use Prime. It smells bad in the bottle but not in the tank.

Dan, do you feel that using Cloram-X is more cost effective? I'd be willing to try it out for sure.

Thanks

i use seachem Safe, concentrated version of prime in powder form, just cause it goes a looooooong way and is relatively cheap...

I've wondered about that, havent heard too many people using it. So you like it equally as Prime? Do you feel you are saving money using Safe?

Thanks

well i buy 1 large bottle of safe once a year for 4000 liters. 1 large container of safe cost roughly $21 (get it at cost luckily :) ) here but it lasts forever, also have to say that i only do 75% WC once a week though. I used to use tetra but that was really expensive and it is not compatible with seachem purigen (only a few water conditioners is). If you use the wrong kind of conditioner with purigen the purigen cant be rejuvinated.

Thanx for the response guys. I didn't know the smell went away after I was in the tank....

I've used Prime since coming back to fish keeping, and am entirely happy with it. don't sniff the bottle, that's all... unless you like rotten eggs... can't smell it in the aging barrels or the tank, at all.

The 2L bottles from Kensfish are reasonably priced and last a long time for me, changing 100gal/day.

The "Safe" product is intriguing, if only to save on shipping if I were buying a large supply. As it is, I'm always buying something, so I just add Prime to my order in advance of actually needing it.

Good stuff, worth the money.

Prime for me too. And Ive tried many others and always found the others unsatisfying..especially when I was out of prime and my lfs was closed and had to go use tetra from walmart...bleh.
I dont even notice the smell..I think its worse will bottles that have been on the shelf for a while..I dont notice it with newer bottles

I know Prime is good but if you have 10 tanks and more ....using Prime on a daily basis $$$$....whereas Cloram-X is more cost effective.:)......some people do two 100 % water changes daily too;)

It does get expensive fast, even buying the 4L bottle from Ken... :(

IIRC, you don't age water, do you add the Cloram-X in as you refill or right before or make a stock solution?

Thanks,
-jim

100% twice a day?
Thats alittle excessive..
I guess if you are breeding and trying to feed them a whole lot to grow them out it makes sense...but other than that...just seems alittle excessive.
