spit the food

Why my discus when they eat, they take the food and spit the food ?

Any advice?

Depends....is it a new food? Is it a food they used to readily eat very well?

Well, discus fish use grinders instead of teeth to eat their food. So if the food is too big for them to take in at once, they usually spit it back out and then eat it again.

An interesting thing is a few of my discus actually goes up to the top and spit water at me as they await for their food. They only do it when the top of the tank is open and they see food approaching. It's really interesting, lol.
