Hi all,

My Fluval broke...again. So I'm thinking of getting an Eheim instead of spending more money on repairing the Fluval. My tank is an Oceanic 58 and has a smaller footprint (only 36 inches long). The 2026 is rated for 100 gal. and the 2028 for 160 gal. I would like to get the 2028 so that I could use it when I upgrade but I don't want to blow my fish out of the water with too much current. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I have both. I believe they are the same identical head with 2028 just having one additional basket for more media and thus supposedly can handle a larger tank. Personally I run a 2026 on my 60P (18 gal tank) and a 2028 and an XP3 run together on my 72 gal tank. Forget the ratings, overfiltering is the way to go.

This chart might help some:

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm all for overfiltering I was just curious about the current.

I use the 2128, which is the 2028 with the heating unit, and that handles my 120 gallon easily. Its a little bit of a PIA to get out from under the stand and disassemble for cleaning but, since I have a prefilter on the intake, that only has to happen a couple of times a year. I love the thermafilter.

I also use a 2028 (along with a Fluval 304) on a 125 gallon tank. The Eheim has a spray bar that ripples the surface. I have it along the back wall of the tank facing forward, and it doesn't seem to promote too much current at all. Also, you can always restrict the flow with the adjustment lever. HTH.

I'm all for over filtering too!!! I have a 90 gallon with a 2026 & 2028. I also have the 2126 with the heater but I do not have that on the tank. I bought that after the 2026 & 2028 were already on my tank. I actually was thinking of installing it on the tank with the other two filters. ;)
