Well, I initially thought these 2 were not gonna work but last night they did their thing in the community tank, so I moved them to their own...private quarters. Hopefully the Heckel Cross can man up and handle the amount of eggs this babe produces.

I bet that this pair could have some incredible fry. I'm curious though as to what effect the albino gene would have on the Heckel bar? Would you get some with the Heckel bar or would none of them have a bar but carry the gene so that the next generation could have a bar?

Hey Eddie,

That is a really nice pair. I am interested to see what kind of fry come out of the pair. I assume you split the heckel and blue scorpion? Was the pair not working or did you prefer these two together instead? Hopefully they work out for you, I am sure you will be able to get the fry to attach now ;)

Thanks Connor, the Heckel Cross and Blue Scorpion were in different tanks and the Albino Red Diamond female spawned in the community tank with the the Heckel Cross. The 2 have been shakin quite a bit in the breeding tank but no eggs yet. Should be soon though....I can feel it. :D

Yeah, seeing as how the Heckel Cross handled his last babies well, he should be able to handle the next batch.

Take care,

Eddie

LOL, thanks Jason. I'm curious myself, but I assume mainly turqs but it all depends on the Heckel Cross genes. I'm really hoping these 2 make it happen. To be honest, he doesnt fight her and she doesn't fight him. They did at first but when they went into the community tank, they were like peas and carrots. :D

Love to see the outcome of these two spawning, you can figure the fry if you know the parents exact gene pool. I bet if you lower the temp of the water when changing they will start going at it. Doing lower temps and feeding CBW's which I know we don't do, are great ways to get the party started. Good luck Eddie, it'll be a fun ride for you whatever happens. I'm tagging along for the duration. :D

Thanks Mark! Yeah they had a splash of cold today. They are just enjoying themselves. :D Should be soon, as the females tube is dropped and my Heckel Cross, is always ready. LOL

Take care my friend and hopefully I'll be putting some shots up of their spawn in the coming days.

Pictures never really represent the fish well but these were taken with the tank lights off and natural light shining on the tank. Makes the turquoise really stand out.

Eddie, didn't these two just raise some fry a few weeks ago or was that another pair? Anyway, the photos are terrific, the pair is outstanding and I've got to get one of those Canon 420's for Xmas!
Best of luck with this spawn!

Thanks Joan! It was my Heckel Cross and Blue Scorpion. The Albino Pair was too much my wife and I, FIGHTING 24-7. These 2 are like 2 peas in a pod. I had them in a community tank and they decided to pair up on their own. ;)

The camera is a Canon A480, very cheap but effective.

Take care and best with everything!

Wasn't sure about that model number, but that's the one I want! A blue one. Not good fighting about the fish, or anything for that matter, life is too short. My hubby is not a discus head but he supports my hobby and helps out with the w/c's and stuff, very cool of him. He is getting real attached to the blue scorp.

Well, I picked them up from a Japanese Breeder, that imports fish from Malaysia. I live in Japan so its my only option.

A very similar looking fish are the Albino Spotted varieties that several of the sponsors sell. Something like an Albino Spotted Turk, Albino Leopard, Albino Eruption Leopard.

Take care,

Thanks, they are my 2 favorite colors. Now I cant say that the Heckel Cross is from Wayne NG because I do not have a certificate but he had a similar fish called a Checkerboard Heckel. I heard from some folks on here that he does not have this fish anymore. Not in high demand and they were difficult breeding, maybe breeding true...I dont know. This is all hear say so don't take it too seriously. I have seen a few places here in Japan selling Heckel Crosses, but not like this one. Generally the fish will have the last 4 bars more prominent so it does not look the same. My Heckel Cross can show only the center or 5th bar at times and it is the darkest/thickest bar, very intriguing.

Take care,

Eddie

LOL, I can only hope. ;) These 2 together are like night and day compared to her last mate. The Heckel Cross seems to be the mentor and yet she is the older fish. They take turns fanning while the other looks for food. I may pull the female but I am in 2 minds. I know the male can go the distance but I'd love to see the female doing her thing too.
