I use a night light in the fish room and that works fine.

You guys mean They should have the lights on 24/7 even when they're not breeding? Or only when they have eggs/fries?

For my non-breeder tanks, I keep a dim light on in the room, not the actual tank lights.

I have lights off at night unless they are with new fry.

I always turn tank and room lights off at night, even with new fry. the nightlight gives plenty of light to see by.

The same for me. Normally all room lights and tank lights go off unless the parents have eggs or fry. With eggs or fry I keep a small 1.5 Watt LED light on in the tank. When the fry are removed at 2 to 3 weeks to their own tank I turn everything back into dark during the night.

Lights go out @ 10pm then a night light in the room with fry and all others tank, all works fine.
