Hi

How long does the TFC membrane last in a R.O unit

My tap water is 7.0 Ph and hardness is 60 ppm

R.O water P.H 6.6 hardness 20 ppm

Is it time for a change??

Thanks

George

It is. Very much so. At 66.6% retention rate your membrane is well spent.
If you have a feed pressure over 45-50psi, almost any brand of the TFC membranes should give you a permeate TDS of about 0-2ppm. My bi-membrane unit produces 4ppm out of 360ppm feed. I use a pump though, pushing out about 85psi.

Hi George,

I was just wondering how old your RO unit is or how much you use it. If you have clorine or cloramines in your water then you want to make sure to change the carbon pre-filter every so often to insure membrane integrity.

I change the pre filters every 6 months. My R.O unit is around 7-8 year old

I guess I make around 100 gallons a week

Look like I need a new TFC membranes
Thanks

George
