I have heard the term "nice thick body" used describe a healthy discus. How thick is thick. I have a couple that are a decent size but the king of the group kind of looks like a ravioli. Kind of full in the middle part and thin where the fins meet. Kind of like this:

Should ravioli shape be the criteria for judging a healthy discus?

No, the shape for criteria would be found in the University section. Look at fish that have scored high for shape or just high overall.

They look great, a little pepper here and there, but lovely Albinos. Like the way you decorated the tank, a little hanging greenery.

All joking aside, the ravioli comparison is quite apt. Viewed head-on, healthy discus should definitely appear as convex, plump and meaty across the forehead...

Now I'm hungry, dang it...

I don't think they are albinos, guys. They look golden-based to me. :)

LOL Martha, they also have the jagged fin syndrome. Which brings me back to the OP's original line of thought. I have seen so many different shapes as far as round, football, High Body, Bulldog, etc., but not too much discussion on thickness. I like a fish with a balanced appearance overall. Not too thick and coarse looking and not to frail either. I like the females to appear feminine with softer eyes and the boys to look more male. Just a preference.
