Jim,
Is there any sign of external infection or bloating?

I had an adult fish, one of 11 in a 125 gallon tank, lose swim control. Listed, darkened, began floating with the current, got stuck between the back glass and the filter tube. Lost control completely of its swimming ability.

2 weeks of Furan-2 in QT saved that fish, it's totally cured. I don't know if your fish has swim bladder infection, but that's what I think mine had, and I had a complete recovery.

Good luck.

Jim,

Fill it this out, just for a better idea.

First line of defense, water change, add air and lower temp to 82F. I'd probably move the Mom to her own tank if you are really trying to have dad raise the 2 fry.

Thanks

Doctor Eddie!

I lowered the temp and did a water change and added cooler water, she perked right up and started eating. Could she have been affected by warmer water? He was fine rasing the 2 fry and she just was slanted a few days in water that was about 86.

She seems fine at this moment, by will watch her. I dont want to jump to meds and seperate them yet. Her motor skills seem fine at the moment.

I found this fascinating that a few degress could do that, she might be starting to get sick, I really hope not, This couple are great parents.

I assume I should montior it for now.

Ok Disregard,

She's started again. I guess it was wishful thinking.

Will QT her sometime today.

Water changes will reduce the amount of bugs in the water, the lower temp will keep the bugs from proliferating at a higher rate.

What other symptoms she have? If you think she is strong enough, you may want to salt dip her and then place here in a QT tank.

I placed her in a QT tank that is about 2 feet from her mate. She is vertical and stares at him in the other tank. She seems calm and the dorsal fin seems a bit laid down. Her caudal fin is also a bit clamped aslo. The First pic is when she was still with him, the others now while in QT. The last one is when she was a happy fertile little bugger. See the difference?

Do you think she just wanted out of the marriage?

How do I do some salt baths? What type of salt?
Maybe some simple flushing of what ever she may have could do it.

Any ideas whats wrong with her?

For now, just add ordinary table salt at 100 grams/25 gallons. Keep temp stable at 82, good air and see how she does overnight. She doesn't look too bad really.

Ok fish bath taking place.

Do I do a WC tomorrow? How long in this salty solution?

Some caudal fin rot started at the tips.

She verticle.

Thanks for your help.

Are you giving her a salt bath (prolong immersion) or a dip? I say prolong bath for now.

Eddie

Prolong, shes been in there since 3pm.
How long do I do this?

Eddie

Thanks, never did this before.

So I just keep her in this solution and no WC's?

PS her fin looks little better today, less rot.

If you do water changes, just add back the salt removed. Glad to hear the fins are repairing.

All the best,

This is weird, so she looks great on the QT, fins good and eating.
So I move here this afternoon, and within 2 hours she listing again.

Humm...what is this all about?

Any ideas?

Eddie

Ok its get more weird, I put back in the QT and she immediatey went verticle.
She is clam watchinh her off spring in the adjacent tank.

I did a 80% WC on the breeder tank where dad is witht he 2 fry.
They are fine.

I gave her another salt bath. I guess I should keep her there a another day or 2.

What can this be?

Not sure man, really strange. I'd think if it was something in the breeder tank, it would be affecting dad and fry also.

May just keep her in QT with salt and later, move her mate in there to see what she does.

Eddie

Ok will try that.
Do you think this could be an issue.

This pair spawned successfully 3 times. This last time they ate the fry for some reason, the next day when the fry were gone, I dropped in some fry from another pair where i was raising arcitifcally. Couldnt take care of them had to leave for a few days. Do you think that could cause her to act this way? Are they that smart? Do they have feelings? She's pissed that maybe her mate cheated on her while she was checking out the sponge filter one day?

She really doesnt look bad in the QT tank, its only when gets with her mate and the 2 fry. I will test this again, but never experianced this before.

Thanks Eddie...I'll keep you posted of any further activities.

The Mom may be defensive, they can tell differences if they are different strains/color. I am surprised she is not eating them. Obviously, the test would be to remove the fry and see what happens. How old are the fry, you can raise them off the parents once they are eating on their own.

Take care,

Eddie

Well here's the verdict. I gave her another bath and she did fine.
Then I moved the 1 fry left to another tank.
Reunited she with him and presto! They seem good together again.
She ate with him, she looks good.
Hope they spawn again.

I assume that was the issue, not really sure though.
But all seems fine, they have been back together.
for 24 hours now.

Eddie, thanks for your help.

Anytime Jim, glad she is brand new again. Strange creatures aren't they. Love birds I assume and she was threatened by the fostered fry.
