Sounds like you have the Malaysian Trumpet Snail.

Using the Search, I found these previous posts on getting rid of snails:

Yo-Yo loaches and less left over food will take care of them. You can also bag them up and sell them.

I had a big infestation for a long time after trying nsuccessfully to keep live plants. I plucked and picked and plucked and picked and they just kept multiplying. They were living in the sand during the day and coming out at night and it became this ritual to try to pick them all off the glass at night.

Finally I scooped out all the sand from both tanks and let it dry in the sun, and cleaned the filters really well. I left my tanks bare bottom for a while. They have never come back and I've since replaced the sand after picking out most of the snail shells. No more live plants for me!

:p Ok, I have BB tanks with discus, BN plecos & ZEBRA LOACHES!! do love these lil' guys, they are fun to watch when you do see'm..but even with them, still have lotsa very TINY snails that came in with the plants from last ACA group....really don't mind wiping'm off the glass with W/Cs, but never see adults..have no idea what they are, just so small on the glass...all my plants in there are in pots exc few on the wood....whereever do they come from is my enigma....I'm sure probably feeding juvies heavily is not helping....I now have a new plant group for DW & they are beautiful, hesitating to put'm in those tanks....oh well!! any ideas??

You can add Anetome Helena snail .That snail eat other snails and his reproduction is very slow and they didn't over run the tank overtime . sory about my english .

I also use the assassin snails, they are cool and they don't mess with my mystery snails.

Well thank you Zuja, no worry 'bout your english, very very clear, lol...guess this is the way to go to alleviate my problem

Thanks for your input too, Gixeron, so now, are these assassin snails ok with my discus, BN plecos & loaches?? If so, I'll definitely line'm up & order a couple...maybe for each tank??

I got 5 assassins in my tank. They took care of the the regular ol' pond snails, but now the assassins are breeding. Contrary to what you read about them, mine are reproducing rather quickly and now I'm starting to have a problem with them!!!

Anybody selling mutant snails that eat assassins? :)

But aren't the assassins large enough to just pick out of the tank as you see'm mature?? These that I have are just so tiny & they seem to just appear on the glass, so wipe'm off each W/C, just a nuisance....

One really good medication that I happened to run across that has the added benefit of keeping my snail population down is Aquari-Sol. I was treating my discus for some protozans that came on a couple of new discus I bought. Aquari-Sol is so mild you can use it on a semi-regular basis. The warning on the bottle says don't use on snails, after several weeks of usage, no more snails. Although my turtles are mad at me because I don't treat them to a snail snack anymore.
