Im starting up a standard 65 gallon/planted/discus and I was wondering if an adult pair would be okay in that small of a tank. Any opinions would be appreciated.

A proven pair should be quite happy in there.

:DI have never heard of a 65 gal tank being considered "small". I have one and think of it as big!

Barb,
I have a pair in a 125 gallon tank, and I am startiong to think of it as small.
I think I would like them in a bigger tank...something at least 2.5 ft wide.
Maybe it just me. :)

Having big fish means big tanks, and a different perspective than hobbyists who keep the usual range of tropicals. For them, a 55gal is a big tank. For us, it's a little smallish when considered a group of adult discus... I'm starting to see 75's as a good general purpose tank for discus... and anything under 125 really as not "big", at all...
