the direct translation of the word "discus" into chinese is "铁饼“, which means iron pan in chinese lol. When it refers to the discus fish, in simplified chinese it is "七彩神仙鱼“, and in traditional chinese it is “七彩神仙魚”.

HTH

Xiaofei :)

In Vietnamese the word for discus is "ca dia," which literally means "dish fish." My guess is because discus looks flat like a dish.

Cheers,
Billy

you're right Francis, in chinese the sever color refers to the seven base colors: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple, and literally it just means colorful. :) I remember Kenny once told me when the discus first appeared in Hongkong, it was called "five color angel fish". Later after the German turqs and Thai red royale blue became popular, the name was changed to "sever color angel fish", as those turqs were much more colorful than the old-fashioned domestic browns.

Hello Billy and other Vietnamese friends here~if you don't mind could you let me know some discus forums or website in Vietnam? :) It seems that Vietnam has been the pioneer of the development of pigeon-blood strains and turqs in recent years. However I couldn't find much related information on the internet. Thanks!

The word you want to use for discus in Vietnamese is: Cá đĩa

As far as websites goes, maybe you can try googling.

Pigeon based are "cá đĩa bồ câu".

This is easy if you're using Windows XP (a lot of people also don't know that if you're running Windows XP and MS Word, you can have word do speech recognition).

You need to go to your control panel and click on "Regional and Language Options" (this shows up regardless if you're in the Classic view or the Category view). You'll need to click on the Languages Tab and then check "Install Files for East Asian Languages". Click the Apply Button, then Details Button and Click on the Language Bar button, choose "show language bar on desktop". click the Okay buttons and you're all set.

Choose an application, such as Windows Write, that supports language bar, choose the language you want, and you can start writing in the non-English Language.

I've attached a screen shot for inputting Chinese characters phonetically ("pinyin").

Hope that helps. It sounds more complicated than it is.
