Just picked this pair up today. The ride home was pretty smooth. Hopefully they were not too stressed out from their move. Not the greatest pics, but I didnt want to stress them out even more. Now I know what you all mean when you all praise Hans' discus. These guys are huge and beautiful. BTW the temp is 78 degrees as the pictures say. These pics were taken 10 minutes after I filled up the tank with 15 gallons of the water they were in and 15 gallons of aged 84 degree water. I'll try to feed them some BBS in the morning, wish me luck.

Thanks Eddie. So far so good with parents and fry, we'll see what happens. The greenish one is a Flachen x Snakeskin.

Really nice fish, The fish Hans has are so big but shaped so well, gotta love them. And they spawn where ever and when ever. Very promiscuous! :D

Thanks MSD. I agree Hans fish are amazing. I cant take any credit for this spawn, I bought the pair with fry already free swimming. The guy I bought them from kept them in tap water and so am I. They say NYC has one of the best drinking tap water around, I guess discus like it too.

Did a 50% WC today and fed the fry frozen BBS 3 times today. Some of them detached from the parents and ate some. Here are a few pics from today.

Day 6 free swimming and so far so good. The parents have no interest in eating anything, but more of the little ones are starting to venture out and eat the BBS. I even saw some trying to chew on some BW's that I fed the parents and were laying on the bottom of the tank. I am going to grind up some of Mals worms on Monday and see if they go for them. Thanks Barb. I try to stay on top of things and provide them with the best possible. Just following all you guys and gals examples. Clean water, good food some TLC and hopefully they will keep growing.

Thanks Ray. Thanks to your help, I think we made their trip as stress free as possible. The parents are doing a great job with the fry and the fry are doing great so far.

All the fry are eating the BBS now. I tried some ground up Mals worms but they seemed uninterested. I'll give them a few more days and try it for the first meal of the day. Thank you Barb. I just really would like to get more detail on the little guys. Most of them have red eyes already and I can't capture that with my pics. Then again they don't make it easy either by not staying still. I'll keep trying, maybe i'll get lucky one of these days :) .

Thank you. I will try to update with pics whenever possible. A lot more water changes to do now,gives me less time for pics. I've been trying to get a few pics everyday just to compare their growth day by day.

These little ones are really taking the BBS now. Been feediing it to them 3 times a day and they just devour it. The parents are finally starting to eat some bloodworms, and the little ones think they can eat BW's too. I'll be trying some ground up Mals blackworms tomorrow to see if they attack them the way they have been eating the bbs. A couple of pics today during dinnertime for both parents and fry.

Thanks John. Cool videos and nice pair. That sucks about the heater malfunctioning and killing your fish. What brand of heater was it? I read on SD today that someone had a stealth pro blow up and break the glass on the tank . Got any recent pics of the fry?

I believed the brand is Marineland Visi-Therm Heater and I can’t take picture at this moment the camera is broking, but the fry are very healthy with nice shape; I will keep them all since that's the only batch that I got from that pair.

Thank you Hans. You'll never put yourself out of a job. The quality of the fish that you provide only makes us want more and more of your fish. Now I just gotta convince the boss that another tank or three is not a big issue. Maybe I'll take a page out of Eddies book, I'll bring in the tank(s) with Victoria Secrets giftcards attached to the front glass.

Thanks Larry. You got that right, Hans is supplying us with some awesome fish. So far so good with the little ones. I find myself just sitting there observing the parents and the fry interact. It amazing how good they are at taking care and protecting their fry. Thanks again Larry.

The fry are in their own tank now. Moved them into their new home this morning. I took my time and counted them as I transfered them, total count- 154 fry. There must have been close to 200 originally. Some were swimming aimlessly and not feeding and some were just not growing in the first few weeks so they were culled. I'll try to take a few pics tonight or tomorrow.

I have not had time to take pics lately with all the WC's going on around here. I managed to take some a couple of days ago, but these little ones do not stop swimming and make it very difficult to get any good pics. Here are a couple of them. As I was doing a water change on the fry tank yesterday, this is what I saw in the parents tank across the room:

I didnt provide them with a cone to spawn on and they just kind of sprayed them on 2 panes of glass on one side of the tank. I didnt want them to lay so soon because the male had a few missing scales from overeager fry feeding on him, and I wanted him to get better. I guess they had other plans. When I got home today it seems they ate the scattered eggs and left a little bunch they had in the front glass behind the stick on thermometer. If this bunch goes free swimming, i'll keep my eyes on the father and if need be put a divider in the tank and let the mother take care of the fry. Here's hoping for Wish me Luck Part II thread to take life :)

The eggs laid by the parents last week were eaten by them the next day. The fry are doing good. I had to up my water changes to 3 times a day 90% each time. This is a little challenging as I start working at 5 AM, so now I am doing water changes at 3 AM. I also culled a few that were just not keeping up with the others. I dont know how much viagra Hans gives these fish, but 5 days later this is what I find:

These fish are great parents. This last batch of eggs just went free swimming this afternoon.Two hours later already attached, although the female doesnt make it too difficult for them, she is almost completely black. Took one shot of them a little while ago.

How's the first batch doing?

I'm gonna have to split this pair up soon, I am not gonna have space to keep all these fry. The first batch is doing good, just waiting for them to grow a little more and stay still so I can get some decent pics.

Congrad Ruben, very nice. I have not had the luck in 3 yrs of any off my discus laying eggs. But, I did have a Snake and Blue Diamond pair a while back and I raised some Turks, some blue snakes and some blue diamonds from the pair.

I have no clue what they might be but it seems that the ones with the eye bar are 9 bars and the ones with no eye bar are 14 bar. Or maybe its just wishful thinking or my eyes are deceiving me, lol. I'll keep a few of each kind and hopefully I can grow them out and see what they turn into.

Might be cobalts and Blue SS or Blue Scorpions. Definitely keep some! Its great to see folks raise babies to adults and not just sell them all off at 1-2 inches. ;)

Thank you. I really don't know much about the lens. Its my wifes camera. I just put it on automatic and click away. Most of the pics don't come out that good, I just get lucky once in a while. Ill ask her tomorrow what type of lens it is.

The lens is not a macro lens. Its a 28-80 mm lens. My wife tells me that the camera does have a macro setting. I'll try that next time.

Round 4. These fish are no joke. Anybody having second thoughts about getting any of Hans new pairs, don't think twice. These fish are breeding machines. Im having lots of fun with this pair and all the fry. Just make sure you have extra space for all the tanks you are going to need LOL.

Round 2 the eggs were eaten by the parents. Round 3 is almost 1 month old now and Round 1 are reaching 2 inches. Breeding machines is right.

Hey Tito. I still have your email. I'm sure I can't keep them all, but I want to try to grow them out as much as possible without overcrowding them. I'll keep a small group after that and try to grow them out hopefully to adulthood with some luck. I'll keep you posted.
