Sometimes young inexperienced pairs will eat their fry. I had a pair of checkerboards that kept on eating the fry when they became free swimming. This happened for about 6 months.
Then the last spawn about two weeks ago they are raising a nice brood of fry.
Be patient with them. They will eventually learn that their fry is not food.

Yea it sux when that happens...My first Rose Red pair did that so many times in the beginning before they got it right. And if you think only young pairs do this, or pairs that never did, won't...guess again. I have had new and old pairs do this. Sometimes with fry that has been free swimming for 4+ days. One of the many joys of raising Discus...and one of the reasons they cost what they do!...Bill

One time I saw one of the parents I had go around eating up all the free swimmers. I was surely mad at the fish! A while later I noticed that the fish had actually spit them out somewhere out of the way that I had not noticed for a time. Maybe yours too?

Excellent! What are your plans for raising them?
