Getting my first set of discus and wanted some extra info about my water for a little while... anyone know how well the Live Meter Master Fresh Water Test Kit Live kit works? I ask because its the only kind I have seen that is not $4,000 and that I can buy in a LFS... Or other types of the same thing...?

I think you have to replace these every month. Might be cheaper in the long run to go on eBay and get a variety of meters (pH, kH etc.).

If all you are looking for are Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite and Ph tests, I'd stick with a titration test kit. It's all you'll ever need unless you are trying to breed discus. Then you'll want to lood in to a TDS meter as well. Thos can also be found on Ebay.

If you decide to buy a PH meter check out my site for options...I have used the SM101 but recently retired mine and upgraded to the SM801. I would be willing to sell my SM101 but you would need to purchase a new probe since my old probe died.
I would sell the my meter for $20 + New Probe
or check out some new meters here: http://www.eliteaquaria.com/Meters_s/30.htm
I also use the API test kit above for Nitrite, Nitrates and Ammonia.

I have the drip testers they work ok, but I hate reading them, I always call my wife over (which she hates) we stare at the card and the tube and fight over what color we think it is... lol
I was looking to find a live monitoring system... I may just get a couple of these cheap things for the first month or two...

They have a 2 year guarantee from the manufacture...Mine have lasted longer than that if you keep it in storage solution.

I've hap the basic Ph probes last nearly 5 years and just needed a calibration every now and then. They're pretty solid pieces of gear!
Dan,
Great prices on that multi probe. I likes! :)
Will be ordering soon!
Best wishes!

Chad,
Thanks for your support...I just started using the SM801...
I love this meter...It has PH and TDS and uS combo...no more need for two meters.
I would have continued with my SM101 if my Bishoff conductivity meter would not have died...

Parts per million = TDS
Microsiemens = EC
