Been a while since I posted any pics. D'Wyatt came over and we started on a new rack this weekend. It will hold 14 75 gallon tanks. Hope you enjoy.

I just put this pair together but I did pull 20 babies from them a week ago. Looks like they are getting ready to go again.

Hey is it normal for people to pet their fish?

People ask me how much water to change..well I am changing the water in this tank (10 gallons with 15-20 babies in it) twice a day...So I guess the answer is as much as you can...LOL

Thanks for sharing the photos - always interesting to see how each person cares for their fish and what their setups look like.

Thanks. They are snakeskins. They kind of walk the line between blue and red. I paired these up because both of them have a few red spots on them....

Good luck with the new racks! They look like they'll be great! I'd love some more information about your new racks and more photos, as you progress. Is the framing all those 2 X 6? Will there be two tiers, stacked two high? Tanks also back to back? What are the dimensions? Rack leaves from floor, number of inches between tank levels? Will you have a center filtration system? etc, etc. ..........Thanks!

P.S. I just picked up six 65 gallon tanks and have been wondering how I might set them up, hence all the questions.

Man I an at work right now but can try to fill in the blanks later....basically the bottom of the rack is covered with a pond liner and then it becomes a very large sump, a pump moves the water up into the tanks where it overflows back into the sump....Wish I could say it was my idea but I stole it from Hans.....not sure who he stole it from...LOL.

Wish I could take some juveniles from that pair in June!

This question is kind of random..
but what is that plant that you have, the one that is long and kinda vines out? Ive seen it at a local mexican resturaunt, and Id like to get one, but have no idea what it is called.

Yeah, I noticed those long vine plants as well...I know them as "money plants," though I'm not sure if that's the correct technical name. They're quite easy to grow...in fact, I've got a clipping growing out of my community tank! I figured I'd just place it there, and see if it would help to lower the nitrate levels...so, it seems to work out as beneficial for both the fish and the "money plant" itself! :D

BTW, GREAT setup you got going there, John_Nicholson...I envy you to be able to set something like that up! My wife would have a fit if I even thought of something like that!! GREAT WORK...and GOOD LUCK with it!! :D

Very nice- the sump system has to be a terrific setup.

The snakeskins are gorgeous, but I'm a sucker for snakeskins, anyway...

I think this is the plant in question-

I am by far the least hands on person with plumbing. But this is very easy to follow. Very nice.

Question - those 2 tanks one above the other - are they like 75g tanks partitioned into 3?

Tito

Very nice indeed!

For you folks thinking about doing the same...I can provide some visualization of a model for you before you build.

Ah.. makes sense.. Look similar. Nice observation.

John - how do you leverage this setup to do the water changes?

I was searching for another thread and saw that I had missed some questions on this one. Sorry about that. Most old timers already know this but for newer folks when it gets close to deer season I am hard to find. We are really into bow hunting. Once again sorry about that.

The tanks are 75 gallon tanks, some are divided into 3, some 2, and some not at all. I think these use to be in a petsmart or petco. Not 100% sure I got a good deal on them. $20 bucks a pop but you had to buy 25 of them at a time. The same water pump that pushes the water up into the tanks will also pump the sump dry. I only have to turn 2 valves. I need to take some new pictures. I have finished some more of the project since they were taken.

Wow great looking fish room. I was wondering what size tanks are you using for your breeding pairs ? Thanks

John_Nicholson
10-13-2010, 02:55 PM
The breeders are in basically a 75 gallon tank that has 2 dividers in it. I put pairs in each end and leave the middle open. Water flows in at both ends and the overflow is in the middle section. This basically pushes all of the crap into the middle tank and away from the fish. This allows me to just siphon the middle section out.
