i'm thinking about adding purigen to my canister filter to remove excess nutrients to controll algae in my new tank. what are your opinions? i just added 2 plants to my tank a floating water sprite and an annubis attached to some DRIFTWOOD DOES THIS AFFECT THEM NEGATIVELY IN ANYWAY.

Nope. From what I've heard, Purigen is safe with both plants and fish:)

You just have to remember to check it frequently. Depending on tank volume, filter flow etc...it seems to get used up pretty quickly. It will turn from white to brown or black when exhausted. Soaking in bleach rejuvenates the media. I use it in my HOB filters so I can monitor it's color. I use bio and mechanical media in my canisters. No impact on plants that I have ever noticed.
