I built a "Gizmo" along the lines of the contraption that Big Tuck generously shared on this forum some months ago. If I knew how, I would post a link. A search in the Breeding Section for "Gizmo" will turn it up, I think.
So far I have run two batches of fry through it and it seems to be doing a fine job.
I took the eggs soon after spawn was complete and hatched them in a 5 gallon tank. As some were beginning to free swim, they were transfered into Tuck's Gizmo. Next day, all were up and about. I fed Golden Pearls (from Ken's Fish) and newly hatched BBS 6 times a day for 2 days, and then BBS alone.
I kept them in the Gizmo for 8 days, then tranferred to a 5 gallon grow-out where they were fed BBS 4 - 6 times daily. At 16 days from laying, some of those fry are about one-half inch in total length. They will move to a 20 gallon in a few days.
The second batch is now 9 days from spawn and is still in the Gizmo. Losses were about 10 percent or so, mostly in the second day, in both cases. After going to the 5 gallon grow-out tank, loss has been practically zero.
This Gizmo thing works, and is useful with pairs that do not seem able to do the rearing thing on their own. Hope some of this is interesting and useful to somebody. And thanks again to Big Tuck.
