The dog ate my pair of discus

I don't know who else to tell who will understand
I watched her do it...I couldn't move...I don't think I was breathing.

Trying not to kill the dog....counting to ten

They were in the bottom tank, i just moved them in a 20 H for breeding, I walked to the other side of the room, heard splashing - turned to look..and it was all slow motion after that.

German sheperd put head into water, comes up with BOTH of them and runs...I think I was shouting by then. By the time I got to her they were gone....

UUUUUGGGGHHHHH

Free dog to good home...

I should have known this same dog ate my FDBW a few weeks ago

OMG thats horrible :( and here I was angry at my shepherd for always scaring my discus cuz she moves too fast and loud. Yours is at a whole different level. perhaps some tank lids next time for bottom tanks, or just ban the dog from the discus room.

That is horrible. Sorry to hear that. I made lids out of the light covers that go to hanging ceiling at basement...don't know what it's called. But they work great...just cut them to size.

Exactly! I was always worried about our cat. Would never expect to read about a dog eating not only 1 discus, but a pair! So sorry to read this ... :(

I had a dog that used to eat my chickens, I taped one to his head for a few days after that he didn't bother them anymore, old country folk trick I heard about.

That's terrible. I've never heard of a dog grabbing discus out of a tank and eating them.

Sorry to hear about that.

Man that sucks. I mean really, just sucks. Everything is a game to some dogs. I have two boxers, one is a rescue and I swear sometimes it looks like she is jealous of my discus when they are getting more attention than her. Sorry to hear that man..

Man that sucks and I would have stomped the dog pretty good for it, but in the global aspects of things it is just an animal doing what animals do.

Good luck.

Sorry about your loss... freak accidents that you can never see coming... until it happens... and then you vow never to leave things to chance again...

i lost a discus two days ago... my guy was on his penultimate day of metro treatment... was recovering so well... on my way out to work, i see that he's dead... submerged airstone somehow got dislodged... oxygen levels probably dipped overnight... the rest is history...

i was in complete, utter disbelief when i discovered it... to lose a discus like that... i can only imagine it must have felt for you...

Re-reading this, I thought you would be the author of this thread (http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?t=78192), but I guess it's common to have dogs that enjoy blackworms ...

The only fair thing to do now is buy more discus and feed it home made dog heart pellets instead of beef heart pellets. You never know, they might grow very fast.

OMG ... This is insane .. I thought only cat will eat fish .. and dog only like bones ? Sorry for your loss Lisa ... must be some kind of dog.

You must spoil your dog very good ... My wife just get a dog a couple months ago .. I won't let him get close to my tanks, not even to my Python hose .. or else he will be in my backyard ..

Cute dog.

Take it easy on them as they really don't know any better. The best you could do is just try to prevent the problem before it happens again.

If this actually occurred, the blame needs to be laid at the feet of the caretaker of the tank...no lid? What's the worst that could happen?

So sorry for your loss. I would be devastated. I am glad our dogs have to stay outside, we have birds and I know they would eat them.

I thought I just had to be worried about jumpers not my dog getting in there. Sorry for your loss and it at least thought me a lesson not to leave a dog alone with the fish (not that my pup could do anything her head is lower than the cabinets on the stand).

Wow, I mean..just WoW!
I read this and my stomach sank, to think a dog would go scuba diving for a discus?!?
I'd never believe it if I hadn't seen it.
Really sorry for you loss (I'd be enraged and need to go for a long drive to "cool" down...and I'm a dog lover!)
