These are a nice fish, but lately they have lacked the vigour and colours of the earlier years (probably were wild caught). Ideally they should have a substrate (sand is ideal) and a few plants, but discus water will suit them, though the temps may be a tad high for the congos. Need to be in a shoal of at least six, more the merrier though.
They are pretty fast though. They will grab most of the food rightaway, so you will have to ensure that discus get their share too. I had them with angels so they (angels) were fine fighting for food.

beautiful fish! i would say get them. i already missed mine. best in a big schools
They are pigs lol
steal all the food they can from Discus and because of their greedy feeding nature usually will get gut blockage , if fed beef heart mix, and eventually die - from my experience of course
Good luck
If you keep your tank warm, they are not going to do well. I think they do fine if the temp is 82 or below, but if you keep your tank around 85 ~ 86, then not as well. School of 12 or more and they school great! Good luck.
I find that the Congos get more color as they age. I usually keep a school of 5-6 in my discus tanks to add some movement to the mid section of the aquarium.
