HERMOSOS los Heckels!

I love the body shape of the one in the right!

Was gonna say the same when I first looked at the pictures, the shape is unreal. Really like the thick center heckle bar, always looking so unique :D

Beautifull Heckels indeed ! I really like their colours and the mix of adults and sub adults.
However I would suggest some sand in the bottom, apart from that the colour scheme seems fine !

They must be living in very soft acid water and have been well cared for.
I would second the advice to add at least a thin layer of fine, light colored sand and a branch or two of wood. Heckels really need and love to sift through fine sand even if it is only barely enough to conceal the bare bottom it will make them even happier fish. Having at least one piece of branching wood will help the subadults find some security, even if only imaginary, from the dominance of the mature fish. Heckels are so much more sociable than the other species or any domestics that intraspecific aggression is always mild and subtle. That is one of the aspects about Heckels that I really enjoy. These little changes will have large positive effects on your Heckels. Empty glass boxes are fine for domesticated Discus but the wilds need some semblance of their biotope to be at their best and small concessions do not make maintenance significantly more difficult.
If I ever played and actually won one of the big lotteries I would have to give Heckels another try but this time in a custom 10,000 gal tank holding about 40 or 50 fish to see how they really act under more natural conditions.

Hi Oskita, Hi Vera,

Oskita muy bonitos realmente, congratulaciones. Has lido mi articolo en Acuario Practico? Pero necesitas arena fina blanca para elos, por favor y tambien unas plantas flutunates. Conform lo ves en mi libro.
Gran abrazo

Vera, I hope you liked my talk in Lecce, sorry I missed you afterwards, but I still hope you had a great time in this beautiful city with excellent food and wine. Di you see my report on my website, also the one of the talk?

When will we make a seminar like in Shiraz in Malta? Think about it and let me know. We should talk. Have a look at the one in Siraz recently and also below the one I did in your country (Ucraine) a few years ago, it was an Opera Festival in my honor the beautiful Opera house of Chernigov and also fantasticly organized with Opera each evening and daytime in the same Opera-house the aquarium planted competition and my seminars. So it was joy day and night for 4 days...

Have a look an let me know and all the best to you, your Discus and Malta.

Always
