hi every one my name is John i am new to the forum and to Discus, i have read some posts about filters i understand that the FX5 is very good.
my question is do wet/dry filters with the bio balls works better? is almost double the price of the FX5, curently i have a 55 tank with two 60 gallon hang filters but i will be getting a 300 tall tank and i am not sure about the filtration, i am spending a lot of money on the tank it self i want the best filtration posible.

thank you in advance (i have some pics of my curent set up).

Hey there John and welcome to Simply! Nice tank/fish! A 300 is gonna be a monster! Thats well out of my league but yes a sump or wet/dry will be your best bet for that size. I'm sure someone will chime in and give some advice. Anyways, just wanted to say hello and welcome.

Take care,

Eddie

Depends, do you want a planted tank? I could be wrong, but I beleive a sump will off gas too much c02, or at least increase your consumption. FX5 is a monster, I have two (as well as a sump).

yes my tank will be planted and i also get two FX5'S and a 400 sump i figure i double the filtration and by using different types of filters i will cover all bases.
thanks for the advice.
here a pick of my new watley i got yesterday.

Hi baarda, welcome!
nc0gnet0's right about a sump off gassing c02 but that's assuming you're using c02. Your current setup looks real nice.
