Hi all,
I have always been a fan of the more classic Discus, so a while back I bought a bunch of 3" Red Turqs from Kenny to grow out for my Breeding Projects...These were "Forrest Red Turqs"... .. Some of Favorites in the Hatchery. They have been absolutely great... healthy from Day one and vibrant.... I'm really looking forward to breeding them some day soon...They have been sparring alot but not spawning yet....still young...I'd guess under a year.

Heres some pics....

Every once and a while you find something kind of unique in a group of fish...something that if you focused on it..you might be able to come up with a novel strain or pattern...I'm always looking for that.:D But haven't had much luck...However..I'm really hopeful with some of the things I am working with. One in particular is a red turq from this group.... It has a unique pattern....It has striations inside of striations... Check out this pattern and tell me what you think.I tried to bring out the pattern as best I could with some image enhancement.

Looks as if the stiations were outlined. Super cool!

Maybe you can work I out of it's genes. Kinda like with a ring leapord.

Really really nice Al, I'm sure you will keep us updated on what u decide to do with him. :)

Thanks everyone.:)

Vera, they were raised on mix diet...their color is part genetics and part diet...I would guess the degree of color from diet comes largely from my surf and Turf homemade foods( containsmany things but for color...krill/paprika/spirulina)...and the ocean nutrition pellets I fed the as juvies....
Now as young adults/teenagers they also get freeze dried blackworms as you can see in the picture.

April,
I don't know how you and Kenny do it..... If it were me the moment I received a shipment from Forrest my personal collection would grow even if I had to tear down walls, and of course my profits and inventory would shrink..alot!:)

April does it by having all her fish at the shop, so all the begging and drooling from customers breaks her resolve and she sells everything. Is that about right, April? :p

they really are beautiful man. Thanks Dominik!:) Don't lose heart.... Not every group of discus will do well...some is due to genetics, and source...some due to care and maintenance as well as knowledge base....and sometimes...its just bad or good luck.

Al,

Thanks for the update of the FRT's. You did a great job raising them up and glad to know they've been vibrant from day one. I wish you the best in getting pairs from them soon! :)

Thanks Al,

I'm a chump for nice red turqs, and that's a beautiful group. The one with the striations within striations is definitely unusual... I like it. I think Hedut has (or had) a few like that. Likely from Kenny and Forrest, I believe...

Very good example of RT's Al, reminds me of Schlingmans, very nice indeed.
