Male in the first shot, female in the second. This is the unproven pair that is learning. Can clearly see why its water change day tomorrow. ;)

I wasn't a huge albino fan either. I really like Albino Turqs and those with a little pattern but not to much. I wasn't even planning on any until I saw Kenny post these for sale, and thats what sold me. Had to jump on them. And Albino shapes keep getting better and better.

I'm going to start working some color bits in the diet I think, maybe I can bring out some more of the red in them.

Newest picture of the pair. They are my most prolific at laying eggs. Eggs still turn white. The good news is though that they don't seem to want to eat them...even after they turn white.

Sounds like both good and bad habit, good for them not being egg eaters, and bad for them for not being able to pick out the bad eggs. Nevertheless, that pair is really beautiful, really hope they breed for you, I wanna see some wrigglers :D

I have more of these in a grow out tank, and one is a major pig for Color Bits, so I wanted to post him here as well so you can see how orange they can get if they are on things like color bits. Its honestly more of a "Peach" color. The other white fish in the tank are more ABD throwbacks...but they don't eat as many colorbits.

Thanks. I'd recommend trying to feed them color bits before getting them to hooked on the freeze dried blackworms. The others don't take to the color bits as well as this one fish does, he goes crazy for them. The others will nibble them now and take a few, but really want the worms.

Really nice orange or peach color after feeding a food that enhances the red color. I'm sure something like shrimp would work as well.

did this color take 2 months to achieve by feeding TB. I see you have had them a couple months.

How does this pair look to you? ;) This is my pair that keeps laying eggs, still working on the male getting things right. This picture was taken before I moved them to their new breeder tank. Notice the long trailer coming off the male's fin on the right. They are cleaning the cone again as I type this.

Oh, I don't know about that. There are some others on here that take great pics. Thanks though. :)

Thanks Kevin!

Happy to report, eggs are on the cone now. Male made passes....we'll see. I took the male out, he has no interest in the eggs after they are laid and he makes passes. He constantly beats up the female so she can't take care of them.

Great photography as Matt!

As for the eggs these are still relatively young fish I would let them try a few more times and if it still doesn't work out then if possible try to separate them and put one of them back in with the others to let him choose another male/female...sometimes compatibility plays a great role in successful breeding; in the past I've seen fish(males OR females) that didn't get along very well with their mates during the egg laying process, but when switched to other mates did a much better job and were then able to produce successful batches of frys. I guess in a way it's like us humans...:D

Here are some ABDt frys that were produced artificially by the exact same line of ABDt's, though the parents are a little older than yours. Hope this gives you a bit of encouragement Matt!:)

Thanks Kenny, I know they are still young....but Its always frustrating! LOL. I think my white butterfly male frustrates me more though, about to put them back in General Population to spice things up a bit. The ABD throwback posted a little earlier in this thread, the real orange one, is a female as well so I have her as an option too.

Wow, what an awesome pair! beautiful! Is it true that two of the ABD throwback together would give you a significant percentage of albino BD, aka platinums? I think those platinums are just so stunning! :)mike

Thanks! I really like this strain. I'm feeding these specifically colorbits to get a little orange/red color to them. Was very surprised to see the blue show up on these but it just adds to it, really impressive.

If you look at their fins when they go up towards the light the striations on them looked almost purple, infact it seemed to be a light purple hue. And thats where the blue is now.

Discus-n00b
09-05-2010, 03:53 PM
Well an update for you all. I switched out the female, started using the Male above and the really orange female above, they seem to get along better then the other two. They had a batch of eggs and all went white...or so I thought. Just as I was about to clean them off the cone I notice 1 wiggler in the middle of the white eggs. Sucess! Sort of. ;)

I'm thinking my water might be to hard for most of the eggs to be good. Need to get my dad's RO unit that he used with his old SW tank and do a Tap/RO mix. My TDS is right at about 160 out of the tap.

I'm kinda jealous noob! My abdt have been eating the tetra color and still blah! though my aes is looking good. WTH?

Discus-n00b
09-05-2010, 04:51 PM
How long have you had them on the Tetra Color bits? I have 5 ABDt total, only one has become fully orange. The others just have some of their striations a bit more orange (Especially in the face), or a better pink or peach hue on the bodies. Could just be different per fish.

Jennie
09-05-2010, 04:56 PM
3 weeks. not even a tinge and they do eat them

Jennie

is it just 1 feeding per day or more of color bits that you give

Discus-n00b

Varies, 1-2 feedings per day. Mostly once per day. Probably just needs more time.

Machines i'm telling you. So i've been really busy lately and I haven't had a chance to clean this tank in at least 3-4 days. The last water change I did they spawned that night, I put the screen over the cone but the eggs ended up being no good and they pushed the screen to where they could eat them. I left the screen in there, and tonight since they can't get to the screen they are now spawning on the black glass.

Lol, I jsut can't stop these things. I think my water is a little to hard. I don't think the male can fertalize them fast enough (he doesn't seem to care either and would rather beg me for food) so they don't get fertalized and harden up to fast. Gonna try and get the old RO unit up and running again and see what I can do.

Just wanted to let you all know these things are crazy. Soooooooo many spawns.

Discus-n00b
09-20-2010, 11:38 PM
Rebel's are EOS ;) EOS is the whole line of DSLR's from Canon. (Electro-Optical System). So it includes Rebels and the other cameras. So i guess its an EOS but not a Rebel. ;) hehe

Discus-n00b
09-21-2010, 12:37 AM
Depending on your budget I'd definently look at the Rebel line. I'm a Canon fan, so thats all I will really recommend personally. I started with the first line of Rebels and the newer models are really nice, really a good first jump into the DSLR game. Its a cheaper body, that can always use the big expensive lenses if you want to go that route.

Jennie
09-21-2010, 09:01 AM
Yeah that's another thing. Lenses aren't cheap either:( It would have to be something for me to seriously consider, with cost.
