I was wondering how long it takes for a sponge filter to be cycled? I'm putting my pair in to a 20 gal BB and was going to take the sponge filter out of the MT. Then put in a new sponge filter back in the MT.
I have also heard of somebody just squeezing out the sponge filter right into the new tank and bingo it cycled? is this true?

A couple of weeks usually works if it was placed in a established tank.

what do you think about the whole squeezing the old cycled filter into and new tank?

Never tried it. I always put new sponge filters into the sump of my 240 gal. to cycle.

I believe it seeds it , and helps it to establish faster.
