Seriously, The scores have been tallied up and I do have a winner for the award...But I will say this...It was a really hard contest to judge...all the contestants were winners in my book...and anyone that wants to send me back their fish..I'd be honored to have any of them here! So be proud contestants for a job well done ( and no...the fish are still yours!))

So... Before I can post the grand prize winner...I want to run the Peoples choice award...which I will set up as a poll shortly.

What I need from everyone here at Simplydiscus to do is to go back thru the contestants threads and posts over the last year.. click here (http://www.forum.simplydiscus.com/forumdisplay.php?f=167) . Take into account everything, frequency of updates, movies, information, pics...the total package and then vote for who in your opinion has done the best job of communicating what they have done this past year and the results.

I will let this People's choice voting go on for 24 hours...the the poll will close and after that I will announce the Grand champion as well as the People's choice Award winner.

The pressure is mounting here in cyberland....Its been a tough contest,with much hard workby all...... Brew is handed an envelop and silence fills his fish room, broken only by the frantic clicking of his lap top keys.... finally he finishes and hits the " submit reply"...The crowds go wild!!!!


okay enough drama....

And the Grand Champion for this year's Hobbyist Challenger Contest Goes to Acroken "Kenny Hill"!

Congratulations Kenny! A job well done with your fish this past year!

I know most of us feel that all these contestants were winners and I feel the same way as all of you.This contest was an amazing one to watch and our panel of 8 Judges had a challenge themselves in this...Judging a group of fish that was so similar!

We came up with a modified score card as follows..This was posted in the university's non-public section along with the photos.



1. Eyes ( color, size and eye to body ratio) For eye color...think degree of red as these are albino)
2. Overall Body Shape ( transitions from lip to dorsal fins,roundness, general impressions)
3. Body size (basic measurements look carefully at the 5th image in each Contestants submission)
4. Finnage ( how well developed are the fins)
5. Head shape ( beaky appearance, gill plate deformities etc)
6. Thickness (one image in each submission shows this)
7. Pattern (If fish is patterned... how well is it pattern...if solid...how solid...These fish are a cross, so neither is better than the other....but rate this category based on the degree of pattern or solid.
8.Presentation...We should consider evaluating the overall presentation and image in some way...since we can't see the fish in person...but in a show...presentation of the fish and its behavior do matter. For this Category rate based on How the fish was photographed in the images...consider it a more aesthetic and subjective category.

Maximum points is 8...If there is a tie...I (brew) will decide the winner otherwise I will not be judging unless I see fit to. Before you judge..be sure to look at all the fish first, and pay attention to the size shown in Image 5.

Heres a template for the score card... just copy cut and paste into your Pm to me.. you can add comments as well.. I really am counting on everyone giving this priority and I would like to announce the winner ASAP.

Please PM me your score cards...do not post them! I want to keep the judges ratings anonymous as well. I will be posting the score for each category publically..but not the identity of the judge.

I am pumped. Thank you to everyone involved. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me in this hobby. I have to thank Al, Kenny and Forrest for allowing my this opportunity to raise up these beautiful discus. To the judges for seeing through what i feel were my worst photos of this challenge. I really had a hard time at the end photographing these guys in their new tank. I was not expecting to win with those photos. I know the discus i selected was the winner but i did not display him well at all. I am way to excited at the moment to be typing. I will be back in a few.

I was thinking the other day, even though the contest is over, I would love to see how they are doing and any further developement/growth.

The contest is over but not gone around our house. I kept a few of my contest discus but put them out to pasture for a while until I get the time to spawn them. I will for sure raise them artificially when the time comes. For now they are very happy in a fully planted tank and laying eggs in pic 2 and 3. The sharks (algae eaters) in pic 4 do a great job keeping the tank clean and free of spare eggs laying around. Just wanted to let you all know they are still being well cared for and are happy.:)

do I see eggs all over the glass there Bill?
The contest is over but not gone around our house. I kept a few of my contest discus but put them out to pasture for a while until I get the time to spawn them. I will for sure raise them artificially when the time comes. For now they are very happy in a fully planted tank and laying eggs in pic 2 and 3. The sharks (algae eaters) in pic 4 do a great job keeping the tank clean and free of spare eggs laying around. Just wanted to let you all know they are still being well cared for and are happy.:)
