My snakeskins of about 11-12months have been showing what i believe to mating signs. (fin shakes, bowing heads, dropped papellas or w/e they are) The one, wich i believe is female has been making passes at the heater but not laying eggs. Her tube touches the heater about 10 times per pass but nothing comes out. Could this be because shes young and just playing house? Or could it be a male just practicing the deed?

Its called a dummy run, they need to test if they have decided that surface to lay eggs on.

I have a female that did this many times over a couple weeks, now she is laying eggs about ever 10 days or so.

Make sure your heater is laying flat on the floor of the tank. She'll then find a better spot.

Early days yet, but if you haven't hatched bbs before, now is the time to practice. Do you have another tank? If you get fry, you will need a grow-out tank. :)

I have no experience with bbs but ive been doing lots of reading on how it works and how its done. Also i dont have a 2nd tank yet as im waiting to see the whole deed done before i separate them as im not sure if its a pair yet. They only show mild agression towards others but do always swim together and are almost nightly after food doing the fin shake/head bow/nose nuzzle to side dances. Once they lay and i see for sure if its a pair then ill get another tank going. I have extra seeded filters running already in my main tank.
