I have juvie l046 with my discus frys. They get along fine. I would not put smaller L46 with larger discus as they may become very expensive snack.

The ideal temperature for most rainbowfish is 76 degrees, that's 8 to 10 degrees lower than what discus prefer, quite a big difference. Rainbows are very tough fish and they will tolerate very high temps for shorter periods, but in the wild they will usually move into colder water to escape prolonged heat. Any temp consistently above 80 is not good for them in the long run, and I agree that many rainbows may not live too long in the inescapable, prolonged high heat of a discus tank. I currently have a few Praecox and a dozen or so Cardinals in a 20g long at 80 degrees and they do fine, but I would not put them in my 86 degree discus tank, even though I see this done regularly at the LFS.

My 2 cents

Colin
