I picked up a couple of food grade plastic barrels, either 55 or 65 gallons each, for my RO water. They, from what I was told held Olives and Pickels and have a strong vinegar smell, despite me scrubbing them out and running water in each barrel for hours at a time. Is there anything I can use to get rid of the smell? I did throw some Livebearers in the barrel for two days and they did just fine, just the smell bothers me, and I can slightly taste it as well. Would bleach or baking soda help?...Bill

Bleach should help, but RO water in itself would help matters. Jut fill em up with RO (RODI even better) and let them sit a few days.

Sounds good. Do I have to discard the RO/DI water from the barrels after it sits in it? Or can I use it? Thanks...Bill

I would toss it.

Vinegar is acetic acid. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and will react to form water and salt. Drain the barrels, scrub with baking soda, rinse out, you're good.

When I cleaned my barrel I used bleach and really hot water then used my pressure washer on the inside. Pressure washing the inside seemed to help the most.
