It's just alot harder to do with prime as it is in a diluted form. If you like, and you have an old empty bottle of prime (250 mL size), you can add 12 1/2 teaspoons to the bottle and top of the rest with distilled or RODI water and shake well. Whala, a fresh bottle of prime at the same strength/dosing per bottle. I do this and use it on my smaller tanks and for decholirinating bleach soaked/rinsed equipment.

BUT seachem safe does not have stabilizers in it like prime does so therefore cannot be made in batches or stored. here is the link

Yup. The prime bottle states " 250 mL treats 2500 gallons"

Safe bottle states "1 teaspoon treats 200 gallons"

So 12 teaspoons of safe equals 2400 gallons plus 1/2 teaspoon equals 100 gallons. 2400 plus 100 equals 2500 gallons which is the same concentration as the prime 250 mL bottle. Then just use the refilled bottle of prime as directed on the prime bottle.

I have never had a problem, but you must use distilled water.

The difference between this and prime is that prime neutralizes the nitrites and nitrates in addition and sure can be a lifesaver when those are detected in the water. Buys u time if you can't change water immediately

lol I saw it and then it was gone. Oh well, thought I was seeing things or not. May have to mix "me"self a drink today!

So does Safe.....read the bottle, there is no difference. I would imagine seachem doe not recomend mixing with water as if you use tap, there is no way they can tell what is in the water and how it would react over time.

I have tested mine over a period of a few months and it still removed chlorine just fine, verified by testing.

I'm going by what seachem stated, that safe removes chlorine, chlorimine and ammo. I don't have the bottle, but if yours says that on the bottle, I might give it a try myself, if it is more cost effective than prime! I'll stop by lfs today and check it out if they carry it.

Get with David Rose from IGO pro one of our sponsors, he carries the stuff and it is hugely more economical that prime.

http://www.igopro-online.com/default.asp

Most LFS's don't carry SAFE.

Jennie

I will contact him. Thanx. If it also removes nitrite and nitrate, heck yes, but why wouldn't they state that on their website??

It is not recommended to reconstitute SAFE given SAFE does not have the stabilizers in it that PRIME does. Check out Seachem's The FAQ link:

Hope that helps!

Safe
Product Description
Safe™ is the complete and concentrated dry conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Safe™ removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Safe™ converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter. Safe™ may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Safe™ detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. Safe™ is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Safe™ will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.
Sizes: 10 g, 50 g, 250 g, 1 kg, 4 kg
Why It's Different
Safe™ is the dry version of Prime® (http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Prime.html) and shares all of it’s advantages; however, Safe™ is even more concentrated than Prime® (http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Prime.html).
Directions
To remove…
http://www.seachem.com/images/arrow_small_black.jpg Chlorine: use 1 measure to each 60 L (15 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm).
http://www.seachem.com/images/arrow_small_black.jpgChloramine: use 1 measure to each 75 L (20 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm).
http://www.seachem.com/images/arrow_small_black.jpgAmmonia: use 1 measure to each 11 L (3 gallons*) of tap water (removes 1 ppm). Do not overdose!
For reference, 1 measure = 100 mg. To detoxify nitrite/nitrate in an emergency situation use up to 5 measures to each 40 L (10 gallons). Use fish to gauge toxicity reduction as test kits will still show presence of nitrite/nitrate even when detoxified. May be added to aquarium directly, but is better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. If temperature is > 30 C (86 F) cut dosing in half.

Big money savings, I'm telling you! Hundreds of dollars a year and if you have a large operation, I'm sure it will save you thousands!
