It is weird not stunted only a runt huh how interesting he seems to have a nice round shape in my opion and the eyes are proportinate just that he did not grow but not stunted. So there is a big diference between stunded fish and simply a runt?

I have no idea what kind of discus he is but if both the parents are lss then thats what he has to be then rite? poor little guys cute the the dawrf discus hey a new strain for smaller aquariums perhaps?

DM:

LSS don't throw off consistent offspring, they will always throw 9 to 14 bars fish. Off course, bloodline plays a role too...

Here is my opinion for that runt of yours.

That fish has a rather short gill plate, body shape is what should be seen in a 1 month old fish, eyes isn't TOO big, but is big for that size. 6 Months old and it is 2 inches, sure is a strange runt.

Gosh, he's a cute little guy. I would call him a leopard. I see bars but except for the eye bar they're red, not black.

Ok I'll bite :p

Checkerboard Turq

Could'nt get the little guy to stop moving, he's actually pretty round, his forward movement makes him look more swept.

This little guy was purchased at a size of 2" in early December of last year along with 9 others by another simply member. I puchased them from him in may of this year. All others are in the 5-6 inch range while this guy is stuck at 2-2.5 inches give or take a hair. He has a gret appetite and a nice little belly on him, and I was told he always more than got his share of food, just never grew.

Runt or not, that little turkey is pretty cute. I like his color and he seems happy as a hippo.

Hey, hippos are not really happy animals, they kill thousands of people every year.

I don't know dude, they seem pretty happy to me, whole family chillin in the water, relaxing and spitting water. They probably kill thousands of people because the people are messing with their happiness! :D LOL

Of course April!! Saving up my money for some sweet looking fishies! He's the smaller of two. Larger one is still in safe zone... Now to rehome all my big eyes!! Sad you have educated bcaquaria so much other wise my "rare" tang discus (read long nose ) and unicorn melon (read broken /deformed rays) would go like hot cakes over there!

This little guy looks like a throwback to a Ghost to me. The subdued colors and half eye bar are def Ghost traits. You say you have full size fish with this color pattern? I'd like to see them.

Here's my very first discus. Actually, he killed the red melon I bought at the same time. (I bought two fish as a trial - this was way before I discovered Simply). In the 2.5 years I had him, he went through 3 very serious illnesses, each time reduced to lying on his side at the bottom of the hospital tank. He recovered from two of those, but succumbed to the last bout.

The little kids called him Blue Berry. He was number two in the pecking order (after I bought more). Never grew beyond 4 inches. Healthy and happy most of the time. Never bothered anybody and was never picked on despite being small.

Finally he just quit eating and whithered away. This is a picture of when he first arrived for his third and last stay in the hospital tank. He had not eaten for a couple of weeks.

RIP, Blue Berry.

Even now, I am still looking at the last pic, maybe I got the Wayne Ng fever :o That fish is bulky and the shape is incredible. I'm jealous that UK don't sell Wayne Ng discus (especially the Blue Knight), shipping from overbroad is an option but the fee is too expensive and the location is way beyond my limits.

One person on a website here at UK tried to sell Giant Flora as Blue Knights (also the description made it seem like he really think GF are BK), I had to email that person and tell him the background story, that person is a retailer as well...then the ad got edited.

Anyways...not sure if I mis-read, but is that a runt, doesn't seem like it? I ask because you are posting it on this thread.

OK, at what size should 4 mo old discus be? I did some old thread research and
at 6 months a discus should be the size of a tennis ball. Now, from reading up on it stunted disus that is adult size, is about the size of a tennis ball with a runted discus being about half that size. Now of my 3 "juvies" and I put that in parenthesis mine are at least 4 months min. and still 2.25 inches or less??? and believe me the water was changed daily and they don't miss a meal

Generally, the growth has to do genetics, some take longer to develop their 'growth spurt'. Strains these days usually follow the growth speed below.

Below is a post that you have seen before, I know because you replied to that thread :)

2.5-3" are about 3 months
3-3.5" are about 3-4 months
4-4.5" are about 5-6.5 months

http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showpost.php?p=664567&postcount=8

Even if it is a slow growing strain, I would believe 2.25" for a 4month old discus is rather small. 3" would sound more reasonable.

This fish is a golden leopard and a throwout from Golden leopard and golden leopard snake intermmediate parents.

You will have four types of fish coming out form intermmediate parents:
Gold leop, gold lss, orginal base lss and orig base leopard.
Some will have face bars since they are from intermmediates.
They are not ghost gene. Up to know i dont think anyone tried to breed Ghost spotted discus.:)

Roundfishross, I'm with dex here, as soon as I saw that pic I thought golden leopard throwback. However, in my opinion, there could very well be ghost genes in the background of this fish coming from the goldens used to create the golden leopard.

Ghosts were added to many strains to improve shape or clean them up in one way or another. That's why they seem to pop up here and there on strains you wouldn't expect to throw them.

But I can discuss this with Jorg Stendker next time we talk,
