DISEASE QUESTIONNAIRE


Problem

1. I was just now doing my nightly feedings in the fish room & I noticed this sore on 1 of my Otto cats.

2. It's located the base of the tail.


3. Medications: Not yet

Tank/Water

4. 75 gal. and 1 yr old, 6 x 2" juvenile discus. 6 "1-2" Oto cats.


5. 1/3 tank daily / 7months / gravel/ age water : Yes?



6 Parameters and water source;

- temp __84

- ph _____ 7.0

- ammonia reading: ran out of test strips have to get more.

- nitrite reading 0.5

- nitrate reading 20

- well water: no

- municipal water: yes

7. Any new fish: no /plants added recently: 4 Amazon swords put in tank a month after a two week quarantine.


What is this ?

How would I treat it?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Hey there Trog! It looks like an ulcer of some sort, probably related to bacteria. My thoughts, an otto is pretty cheap...euthanize it. The cost of meds to treat the sucker would be 4 new ottos.

Hmm, I'd definitely keep an eye on the other fish in the tank. It may be a secondary bacteria infection related to parasites. Watch all the fish for symptoms.
