Hi everyone,
I had thought this was a scrape at first, but its been 7 days or so since i've noticed this and I think it's gotten larger... his stress bars have also been very very visible much more than normal. He's in a tank I'm currently treating with Prazi. He's not acting abnormally though, eating and mobile. In fact he's trying to spawn often, could be the reason for the bars? No weirdness from other tankmakes either.

It could be a scrape, and I may be worrying over nothing...

Anyway, thanks!

Have you thought the stress bars might be related to you treating them with Prazi? That cut looks like like any cut or abrasion. There are some products you could add to the wound if it makes you feel better but clean water is the best option.

That's no cut or graze. IMO it's a parasite that gets under the scales and lives off the host. Eventualy patches of scales die and fall off. To be safe I would treat with a copper based med, salt bath or formalin

With a wound, you NEVER want to add formalin, it can kill the fish.

Formalin: Formalin is mentioned as a treatment for sap however, generally speaking, formalin is ineffective against most molds and fungi. Like MG and salt, formalin comes with its own precautions, including limiting its use in warm water, where low oxygen situations may develop. Handle formalin with care, its toxicity is well known. Diluted versions of formalin products, such ProForm C offer a nice one-two punch where MG takes out the sap and formalin gets the parasites. It is not recommended to use formalin against open wounds because of the harmful effect of formalin on exposed tissue and cell structures.

Scrapes don't get larger unless they are infected (secondary).

Definitely could be developing into a bacteria infection if it is in fact getting larger. I know Peter mentioned to me that is was a deep gash.

Might do a little hydrogen peroxide swab on the area. Have to be careful not to get any on the fishes eye.
