Hello everyone,

Can anyone please tell me the differences between the 500 Grams Metronidazole Powder from http://www.nationalfishpharm.com at $125 vs http://www.jehmco.com at $40? NFP metro can be mixed with food but jehmco metro cannot.

aren't they the same thing?

My discus are having hole in the head or Head and Lateral Line Erosion.

I have tried both meds for few weeks now and I think the hole is still getting bigger.

I followed the dosage recommendation and added once a day for 10 days. Anyways, I think I should have raised the water temp to 90-92F and dose 400mg/10g every 8 hours. Have anyone successfully treated this disease with metro?

I'm feeding my discus with Colorbits and beefheart mix. Can someone please recommend food with calcium enriched.

Thanks

My guess is the percentage of purity of Metro could lead a difference in prices.....try adding spinach to your beefheart mixture or get some calcium citrate from any health food store.

thanks

Try getting the calcium citrate in powder form & add 500 mg to the beefheart......clean water also helps the heal HITH.

thank you for the links.

Yeah, I have been doing 50% WC almost everyday.

This weekend I even cleaned out all the filters.

I'm going to combine Oxytetracycline and Metronidazole, hopefully they can recover.

If I might add
Vitamin "D" works in conjunction with calcium and phosphate and, if they are deficient, the result can lead to "Hole in the Head" disease. (Vitamin "D", should be aprox. 400 I.U. per kilogram of beef-heart mix). Also Spinach is now known to leach calcium so I would recomend using red lettuce for calcium content for your mix.

I have treated HITH a few times. I have had a few rescues come to me looking really bad. Every time I never used meds. We under estimate what vitamines and clean water can do.

I use vita-chem and did daily 80% wc in a hospital tank bare bottom. It took 6weeks and they are 100% better. IME meds are not needed for HITH. Vitamines are the way to go . If the holes have a puss or white stuff come out of the holes then that might be parasites and need meds. But if it is just holes getting larger you don't need it.

Hi Thang,

I carry pure Metro in tablet form that won't break the bank if you only need a few dosages depending on the size of your hospital tank. The brand I carry is AquaFish by Eaton Laboratories (http://www.igopro-online.com/AquaFish-Metronidazole-60-Tablet-Bottle-p/medeatonmetron60.htm) .

More information can be found here on Simply:

http://www.forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?t=81535

or on my site with other available medications (http://www.igopro-online.com/IGOPRO-ONLINE-COM-Fish-Medications-s/6.htm).

Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
David

I don't see any puss or white stuff coming out of the hole, so I think it is vitamins is what they needed. I will give vita-chem a try and update you if this works.

Stress could tie into reducing the fishes immunity but doing a 50% wc shoudn't be stressful for the fish unless it was with water that is unstable to that of the tank. Some breeders do multiple 100% waterchages on tanks and the fish love it, even feed during water changes.

Hi Marte, I keep everything raw as this gives you the maximum nutricianal benefit. All my mix I pregrind including the red lettuce and then prior to adding the beefheart and salmmon I process all other ingredients together vitamins banana spirulina egg yolk garlic and of course the vitamins I spin it it until its like a paste then I add previously ground beefheart and salmon and continue to process for a couple of minutes until its the consistency of crunchy peanut butter. I add one vitamin D aprox 400 i.u. and half an everyday powdered vitamin..The lettuce I use one cup full of shredded red lettuce prior to grinding per kilo.

I was lazy, so for the past 5 months I have been doing WC straight from tab with prime.

That was the only different in my routine before HITH.

Does your mix stay intact during feeding?

Vern Archer

Does your mix stay intact during feeding?

Yes, I use 1 ripe banana per kilo to bind the mix also not adding any water to the mix during the processing helps with the binding. PS I would still stay away from the spinach even though its slightly higher in calcium remember that vitamin D 400 i.u per kilo is the key..
