Hi,

I have 6 2-2.5" juvenile discus in my 75 g tank for a month or two now. But
I recently bought a pair of 5" discus and I put them in the same tank as my juvenile discus. Is it okay to put them together?

Thanks!

I would have waited till they were a good 3 inches or more:)

What do you think I should do now that they are already in there?

Got another cycled tank? Extra cycled sponge to start up new tank?

it may matter warlock. The large fish may get to bullying such little ones. Best to keep them seperated to avoid any deaths.

well, i guess the main questions is...
What is going in the Tank now?

are they beating up the little ones or not?
you haven't said, what is going on?!
are they battered?
Dying?
did one die?
do the big ones chase the little ones all day...?

more info please...

You never know but I bet they will be fine. Most of the time fish that large will not bother the small ones much. Keep an eye on them but I bet it will be fine for a little while.

They are fine now. The larger ones seem to be shy and from what I can tell not eating much. The small ones are doing fine, same behavior as usual. I do daily water changes ranging from 10-25 percent and 50 percent once a week. I feed the small ones 6 times a day sometimes more depending on my schedule.

Feeding that often is not needed, but it won't hurt anything either.

Good luck.

So as of now do you guys think it's safe to keep them together?

Thanks! :D

I guess what you'll need to do is keep an eye on the little ones. Check for chewed tail/fins etc.. I can only say from my experience with mine, that my 4.5 inchers don't put up with my 3 inch juvies too often and couldn't imagine what would happen to 2 inch babies. I've seen some nipped tails on my juvies
but it's your call. See what happens when the 5 inch settle in.

Ironically the little ones are picking on the big one, or at least one of the big ones. Anyways, I'll just wait and see once the big ones settled in.

I wouldn't say anything if I didn't have some experience with it. Time will tell. You asked for opinions, several reponded with different opinions so you need to make the judgement call yourself.

Yes, thank you very much everyone that responded and gave their opinions.

Another suggestion would be to divide the tank 1/3 for the adults 2/3 for the juvies. If you use poret foam with a sponge filter on each side.
This way......no worries for sure.

That is a great idea, how do I do that? and also, is it really necessary to use 2 sponge filters for a 75 gallon tank?

Thanks again!

you can never have enough sponge filters, the more the better

What are you currently using for filters on your 75g....Hob,Canister,sponge?
The poret foam will allow water to flow threw with the Hob (Hang on back) and canister. My suggestion is one sponge on each side.

I'm currently using a Hob filter and a sponge filter, thinking about getting another one if it's necessary.

Thanks vera, I hope so too :)

Thanks Altum Nut, I'll look into that if there are any issues that need me to separate them. Hopefully not!
