Hi you all:

Recently I took the plunge into Discus keeping.

I purchased two Discus that were labeled as Snakeskin (SS) but after reading around I found out they are Throwbacks (TB) since they have 9 bars instead of 14.

Question 1: Are these TB considered the same as Turquoise?

I also purchased two Marlboro Red (MR), however, one of them has noticeable black pigmentation as well as some black marks, which brings me to...

Question 2: Is my MR actually a Blood Pigeon?

Forgive my pics, I lost my cam's cable so I used my cell.

Thank you

Hello and WELCOME!

Marlboro Red are Pigeon Bloods. Pigeon Bloods come in a very large variety such as but not limited to; Red Pigeon, Blue Pigeon, Golden Pigeon, Silver Pigeon, Checkerboard Pigeon, Tiger Pigeon, Pigeon Snake, Red Panda, Blue Panda, Red Melon, Flamingo, Red Gold Diamond, Mercury, White Butterfly, White Scorpion and I'm sure there are more. :o

As far as your SS, they don't have to have 14 bars to be snakes. There are 9 bar snakes. Finelines are also a characteristic of snakes. The 2 blue SS you have look like snakes to me.

Throwbacks are basically in-between types or fish that do not have the characteristics to be labeled a specific type. There are many types of throwbacks, not just SS.

Just to add
