Forrest Red SS spawn

Heres a quick little vid I just took of 2 of my Forrest Red SS that have been dancing around and shaking and dry running for about 3 months now. Tonight was their first spawn. I have a net guard around it just to see if its a confirmed pair. At the end of the vid was a quick glimpse of the fry from a month ago from a different pair. Couldnt get all the way down to the floor because i pinched a nerve in my back today so the low shot was out of the question lol.

Theyre both right about 5 3/4-6inches. I havnt measured them in a while as ive been busy with the other fry and trying to figure out my German blue rams as they ate the face off one of the males in the tank. But theyre gonna stay in the comm tank till this batch either hatches or isnt fertilized and ill have to watch closer next time they do their jangle.

Real nice pair! I would move the heater to the bottom, she can burn and scar her breeding tube if she gets near the hot end.

Its turned off now, put in jager heaters as this last hydor heater has given me a lot of grief. Ill see in a day or so if they are confirmed and then they get their own home!

Well eggs all turned white. Could be because the heater was right in the flow of the powerhead and there's good current so no milt made it to the eggs. Or could be 2 chicks as I didn't see the spawn in progress. But they're shaking again so well see soon again hopefully

So....i got to watch them have at it again, but my PB was eating eggs like a vaccume and harassing the pair. I know at least which one is a for sure female now, but still not sure of the 2nd as it was also doing passes at the glass.....when there werent any eggs.....i think i might have a pair of CHICKS! Every mans dream right?!

Derek, I am glad you replaced the Hydor, it almost cooked my fishes and the replacement did the same after 6 months. I just threw them out, they are very unreliable.

No new spawn yet. They are still doing the dance, but no action. I just need to see the 2nd in action now to see if it really is 2 females or just bad placement on the first spawn in front of the powerhead.

And as of last night its confirmed 2 chicks........great.....now what!!??:confused: I guess i need to find myself a high quality male to go with one of them....

Well Id have to make a special request to try and get a male picked out.....but of all the amazing fish he offers...what to try and combine the 2 SS with? They are both red snakes i got back in march. What would be a good combo seeing as how the SS gene is already not the strongest of traits......Cobalt? BD? maybe an ARGD?

Kenny is pretty good at picking out males. How about a VR with a nice halo, that might make an interesting cross, and it's a pretty hardy strain from what I have seen.

VR is a violet reflection, Dan at Elita Aquaria has them from Wayne Ng.

This is a juvie VR purchased from Kenny in July at 3-3.5" now 4.5+. As it grows it developes its red and black Halo more and more.

But ultimatly what you want to breed/cross with will depend on what you want to accomplish.

Im not sure exactly what i aim to accomplish, but i dont want ugly babies lol. An ALSS could make some nice kids, or a virgin red could maybe throw some kids like Eddies RSS that hes got maybe?
