I really like the cube tanks at my LFS and am really giving them some thought for a discus tank. The one I am looking at is 28"x28"x30"tall, roughly 105 gallons. I have concerns though about the available surface area as this is about 784 in^2. How many discus can be comfortably kept in this tank? I was hoping something like 8?

Does anyone have filtering suggestions? I was thinking of using 2 Eheim 2217's with a couple of Hydro #4 sponge filters. How does that sound to everyone?

Thanks for the advice, I love being able to ask here since I am now about 13,000 miles away from my LFS (on business in Asia).

Thanks again!

It's going to depend on how its decorated for how many discus. I'd go with at least 6.

As for filtering what you have in mind sounds good.

I am doing essentially doing the same tank except with a slightly bigger footprint (30x30x24"). I will be filtering mine with an Eheim 2078 and using a Hydor Koralia 1 to "boil" the water surface for better gas exchange.

I dont think O2 exchange will be an issue at all
