Pics of males and females?...mostly male?

Does anyone have any up close clear pics of the male discus tube, I think my suspected female may be a male as the tube is just different enough compared to the female which is obvious in my tank?

The PE female makes runs up the heater and so does my Green Turk (fish im trying to determine sex) but I see no eggs from either and they both get angry and chase the ring leopard away, lasts for about 4 minutes then they all swim together again.

David - if I was you I'd get an appropriate breeding surface for your discus and move that heater to a low horizontal position in your tank. Best case scenario your going to end up with cooked eggs, worst case your female is going to get a burnt whoha (sorry, that's a very technical fish term you might not be familiar with :D), not be able to lay eggs anymore and end up dead. That is a rare worst case scenario, but why take the chance?

so what happens if you make a video of two breeding discus and show it to the fish in your tank? I notice most people get their whole tank breeding activity when one pair or female starts laying eggs, maybe like a mirror for a betta? lol

I had a feamle die from what I beleive was egg binding!


She was laying on a heater several times. I was not aware of the damage that could happen until an SD member mentioned it to me. It was too late - the damage was done. Next thing I know some time later I see her and her mate trying to do a run. But no eggs were laid. She tried several times. Needless to say - she died shortly there after.

I have no worries about my heater as its a rena heater that attaches to the intake of the rena canister. The outside of the heater is touchable as it heats the water that travels inside of it.
So I think her "whoha" will be alright.

Hey David I have three g. turks from that same batch and i think your fish are just a little too young still. mine have all grown to be gigantic and just recently has the largest proven male,the other two have paired and made alot of practice but nothing yet there still!:D .

Do you have any pics of yours Leo?
I wonder how old the fish are when we got them, mine didnt get any bigger, I assumed they were fully grown?
My PE and RL were smaller and the PE got much bigger while the RL ended up being the runt that got picked on so he has good shape but is smaller.

Here we go, the snake on the right is the proven male.The guys on the left are the ones who havnt figured out what to do yet.they have done alot of pecking and bowing but so far no eggs yet. Also included are whoha pics did the best i could as i do not have a macro lense. Whoha pics are quite difficult to get the fish refused to sign a release form.LOL:D
