If anyone has posted to it...you can't. If it's important that you want it deleted, send a request via a private message to a moderator or administrator.

If you posted it and it still shows the "edit" button on the bottom right of the message window, click edit and if need be "advanced edit" then look at the instructions below to check the box that says delete then click the delete or okay button to the right. There's a four to six hour window that you can edit and possibly delete, which helps maintain the integrity of the information provided on Simply Discus.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for trying to help... I can still edit but it's not letting me delete the post, even with advanced. I have no idea who the moderator's or admin. is yet, or where to find them. I'm such a dork and wasting space on here! Can I just start this day over?

In the bottom left of each post there is a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it , if you go to the post/thread you are concerned over and click that then type a suitable explanation all mods and admins will get notified.

i always wondered that myself.it is lame you just cant hit delete on your own posting. i mean if you posted it...got what you wanted out of the posting... you should be able to delete it.like on most forums. half the post end up going totally different directions or end up being taken over by someone else.

I have this forum set up so you can edit and delete your post with in the first 12 hours of making it.. A person should be able to decide in 12 hours if they spelled or worded something wrong...after that they can contact a moderator or admin and we will determine if it should be edited or deleted.

It may seem "lame" to you, but as the owner of this forum I have seen far too many times when a discussion is going on in a thread that goes on for days... things are posted and responded to but then people go back and delete or edit what they said which make the rest of the discussion pointless at times... when you post something on this forum...the replies do not just benefit you as the original poster...they benefit the community as a whole... and as such we do not want them to be deleted unless they break the forum rules... This is why SimplyDiscus is a DISCUSSION forum and not a FAQ list.

I hope that explains my reasons for how I have this forum's permissions set up.

regards,
Al

Sad but true.... before the time limits for deleting/editing were placed on the forum, I can remember coming across threads that didn't make sense or the flow of information was disrupted after a member deleted their message(s). That or if someone edited their posts to add correct or delete incorrect information. It can be a real PITA or even cause a problem if the post is in Disease/Sickness and Medication (http://www.forum.simplydiscus.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34) section of the forum. :(

I think we've all been there in our early days of forum participation with thinking we posted a dumb question or misspelled something or maybe even believe our message isn't relevant after rereading the thread. In the end, we all learn to sift through the information, evaluate what's important or not important, chuck the rest and when in doubt ask questions from a trusted source. That's just the nature of a forum and expected, so "don't sweat the small stuff".
