Hi,

My first post here! ... so exciting!
First of all sorry for my english.

I have been reading here for hours the last couple of weeks.
And I have learned a bunch of you guys.

I'm keeping fish already for 6-7 years and had always discus in my mind.
But many people say discus is very difficult to keep and also they costs a bit more.
But now I did a step forward and ... i must say ... i've never enjoyed it as mush as now!
Since 4 months I'm having discus fish in 1000L aquarium.
Now I want to set up a little fish room (not too big).
For some quarantine and raising aquarium ... no breeding yet ...
Everything is almost setup ...

But now I ave a question about my tap water ...
In my display tank, I use 100% RO with Sera mineral salt and Seachem Discus Trace. My discus seems to be very healthy ... no problems there.
Parameters of display tank:
- PH: 7.1; KH: 4°dh; GH: 9°dh; TDS: 550µs (or is it ms); NO2: 0; NO3: 10
I think those parameters are about right ...
And those parameters are always constant ...

Now for my fish room, i'd like to use tap water because RO has too much waste. But here (in Belgium) where i live, the water is really hard ...
After aging i have:
- PH: 7.6; KH: 17°dh; GH: 22°dh; TDS: 880µs (or ms)

Can I use this water for my fish room ?
Or do I need to do something with it ?
Is it better that i slowly use this water also for my display tank ?
Is it harmfull for the fish to go from this water to my display tank ?

Maybe sorry for the noob questions .. but i want to be sure about it :)
Thanks in advance,
Stimpy

Nobody ?

I'll guess I'll just try it out ... see how it works ...

Its too hard to breed in but if they are acclimated to it discus keeping should be fine. Any chlorine or other additives in the tap water?

yeah, for breeding its certainly too hard ...
I use Seachem Prime if I use (Aged) Tap Water.

The plan is to get some small discus fish and put them in a grow up tank filled with tap water.
When They are at good size, they go to my display tank with my re-mineralized RO water.
What do you think ? should it work out with the parameters i gave ?

When that went well, I'll consider breeding ...
But I want to take small steps at the time ...

Now I'm keeping Discus fish in my display tank healthy and well ...
Then see if I can Grow Up some small discus ...
and then in for some breeding ...

I think your water is great for growing out discus. I'd like to see them grow out nicely.

All the best
