can i reuse old bio rings, from several years ago? maybe boil or soak in hot water.
second what does everyone use for a prefilter for HOB filter, for intake tube.

You can boil the rings. Filtermax prefilters are decent.

use to use fluval (blue material) worked great. liked how it just slipped on inlet.
does something like this still exist?

BLEACH! kills everything!!
ps.. i use the aquaclear foam.. the small ones should work.. i just cut a hole them.. then BAMMM!!!!!!! done!:antlers:

I wouldn't bleach any actual media, better to boil it. You can bleach the actual parts to the filter but not advised to bleach the media.
