Coming from the land of reef tanks I am used to high flow systems.

Now I am converting my reef tank to a planted discus tank. So along with adding a canister filter a fluval fx5 I am going to use my existing sump.

The tank is 200 gallons and the sump is another 65 gallons. I want to use a quiet pump so i was thinking one of these

supreme hy drive 1600 1750 at 0 head

or the quiet one 6000 1500 at 0 head

I was thinking 5x turn over per hour would get the filtration i want with little water turbulence.

Thoughts?

I think either one would be great. Planted tanks need more water flow than you might think. It helps to provide CO2 to the plant leaves. I use a 900 gph on my 120 gallon tank.

Thanks for the imput

3-5x should be fine as long as you don't have any "dead" spots

I also converted from a reef tank. Just like on a reef, good flow = happy plants and less detritus. The discus don't seem to mind it. I currently have about 5500 gph running (down from 10,000). I have a Quiet 1 6000 on my sump return, and it's a good quiet pump. It's about 4 years old now. BTW, I have a brand new 9000, and it is NOT quiet.
