suspected gill flukes 2 weeks ago because fish was breathing heavy from one gill and constantly scratching that one side on the plants. gave 4 treatments of prazi pro spread out every 4 days with a 50% water change in between. fish seems better and is eating normally and poop seems ok, nut now has little holes in top fin and has a white haze on its body.

white on fins edges, and 3 small holes on dorsal fin

Fins should heal on own with DAILY water changes. I would monitor the health of the fins and not sure if that is excess slime coat...pics would be beneficial. Do not administer more meds till posting pics. You need to up wc anyway.

Here is a pic of her now. Now when you say up the wc do you mean for the fin problem or in general I thought 50% every 3 days was good
Thanks

It may not be enough.. That could be external bacterial infection going on, such as fin rot..Poor water conditions, ph etc can be poss. causes.

Jennie

Here is some info on it_I would also move the fish to QT

Bones8d
11-27-2010, 07:24 PM
So I should just start with more water changes for now?

Jennie
11-27-2010, 07:31 PM
Move the sick fish to QT and treat with antibiotch, do daily wc on main tank, monitor fish..I see gravel in the tank, and frankly that type of substrate is very difficult to clean.. If the fishes health was already compromised prior to fluke treatment, the treatment may have pushed it over the edge..can you get hold of furanese or furan 2?? Treat sick fish with this in QT tank. Treat at 82degrees with airstone only.
NO lights

Yea I can get it, but is it a must to move the fish since I don't have a qt tank ready?

Jennie
11-27-2010, 07:39 PM
yes it will kill your BIO filteration.. You dont need to do anything but fill up qt tank dechlorinate, run airstone only keep temp at 82..feed freeze dried blackworms(clean food) and follow directions on package..no lights on in qt tank

Ok thank you very much. I think all these problems starting happening after I did a really hard cleaning on my tank and stirred up alot of stuff from my plants. Thanks for the help and I'll set up that qt tank right away

Bones8d

Is a small 5 gallon sufficient enough for a qt tank for the one fish?

Jennie

Hey what's up
She's got alot of her color back but more of the fins had come off after I spoke to you but I think that it was the remaining white dead spots. How long would I start seeing fins growing back? Here's a pic the day after we spoke and as of now it's the same. No better or worse

That much fin gone will take a while if she recovers fully. maybe a month or more. She looks very thin Bones

Bones8d
12-03-2010, 08:28 PM
Yea I figured but I'm just taking pics everyday to compare and it's been the same for the last 5 days so I would assume it's getting better. Right now I'm just keeping the water clean. But I'll tell she's been eatin like a pig, I can't even put the food in fast enough. Thanks for your help and I'll post up the progress

That fish is super bad off aside from the bacteria infection. Its suffering from internal parasites also. I'd put that fish down as a best option. Sometimes treating the fish isn't worth it and in this case, I'd put it down.

Sorry about your discus..If you choose to euthanize...Plenty of ice and water in a 5 gal bucket,,fill 1/2 way and stir with hand until water is freezing cold..Insert the unlucky discus and in SECONDS the discus has passed..There is no way faster/humane to do this,,FACT..Can not get any simplier...

I agree with moik, have been using this method for many years, works quickly if the water is cold enough.

Man Barb, I used a ton of ice and still took almost 5 minutes. Heartbreaking. I like Bills method. It's instant

If it took 5 minutes, then you did not do it right..not enough ice??? not enough ice is the problem..putting the discus in the freezer is wrong,,way too slow..Humans can not live in freezing cold water temps for 5 minutes(crab fisherman in the berring sea die within 5 minutes in cold seawater..) Discus are kept in roughly 86 degree water and then put into freezing cold water, they go into instant shock and pass away in a minute MAX....No other way faster..I do not like doing this but is a sad fact of keeping dsiscus/fish..

Allot of Ice and Ice cold colorado water out of tap?? I still think today, maybe she wasn't as weak as I thought, and that I made a mistake. I'll never know.

never really liked doing the deed but has to be done..I leave it as an utmost last resort no matter the method used....
