I had problems with their heads not being sticky enough. I lowered the conductivity of the water for the next batch and that did the trick. The bottom of the tank isn't the best place for wigglers, but if the parents are mouthing them and keeping them clean they stand a chance. Nothing you can do to help them,IMO.

Sorry to say, but it appears that the fry on the bottom may be dead.
Do they show any signs of movement when on the glass bottom?
Have you changed the water perimeters during w/c's?
Same thing happened to me last week...good sized batch, all free swimmers dead on tank bottom.
My water showed no change when tested. May have something to do with the nutrient factor that egg absorbs or does that sound to crazy?

I had a problem that sounds exactly like the problem you are having. It turned out I just needed to age my water 24 hrs to let it gas off. Sometimes there are dissolved gases in tap water that the fry can't handle... I think they're called 'micro-bubbles' or w/e. Do you age your water?

any fry I ever had at the bottom never made it. not saying yours won't,but mine never did. I think of it like a parakeet, once it's on the bottom of the cage it's done!

ss16534,

What Melissa is saying that when you age your water in a separate storage container of such you also have to agitated it to release excess gases. 3 hours as you mentioned is not going to do the trick.
I wouldn't worry to much about losing fry at that stage...they have gone to free swimmers and they should do it again.
Just be better prepared the next time.

On my pairs the eggs hatch 2 days aftdays lower yourer laying. And will free swim 2 1/2 after that. I have 5 pair and they are right on time. If your wigglers are still alive after 2 1/2 Lower your water level to the point where your pair have to lean abit to stay covered with water. This will show there side to your free swimmers and hoefully they will attach. Jerry

Botom line here is that things like this hapen with young fish. Leave them alone and they will work it out. You havent done anything wrong, this is just the way they some times roll.
