I have not shared this little guy here. He was given to me for my birthday in Oct by a friend who tried the discus route and it did not quite work out. Pictures are not great. He is about 3 inches and by himself. But so far he eats well and is sometimes out and brave. Something hides quite a bit. I suspect he is a bit stunted.

Not really. My discus addiction is an old one which I have never acted upon. Early this year I upgraded my reef tank to a 75 and the hubby decided he wanted a freshwater tank with discus with the old tank. So I looked into that and almost bought six juvies. Some good folks on another forum pointed out the folly of that plan and pointed me to this forum. I was able to back out of that discus purchase and decided to sit back and do my research. Very glad I did otherwise I would been another newbie with juvies in a too small tank with gravel and plants. I seem to have a nack for plants as they did very well.

Thanks Paul and Kevin, he also like to push Al's red head tapajos around which is pretty funny to watch.

I have a stunted leopard maybe we need to start a refuge for stunted fish. I hate leaving mine in my tank because he takes up space but what else would I do with him. I am not like others and just cull him I couldn't bring myself to do that. Cute little guy you have there ;)

Refuge for stunted discus, LOL, any takers...Thanks Sean, I thought about culling this one but he was a gift and the person who gave him calls and asks how his little "blue boy" is doing. So I'm stuck for a while.

This BD does not really fit with my discus goals either so I figure I will grow him out and maybe in the future re-home him locally. Who knows, he might turn into something really nice but doubt it. He did come from a good source, Bill in Ohio who I think use to be a simply sponsor.

For a while. He is going to look very odd with the reds.

Everyone says if you have a large group you will always end up with a few runts. Maybe this one will take that place and all your reds will grow big and fat.

Second Hand Pat

The reds are already adult size. Just wait, the BD will mature and pair with one of the reds...:( Sounds like a odd combo.

Vera, yes he is. When I sit by the tank with my face level with the bottom of the tank, the little BD will swim over to me and flare his fins when I place my finger against the glass. Your friends have good intentions even if they do not have a clue :) What do you do with your gifts?

vera
12-21-2010, 08:56 AM
Oh yes Pat , the good intentions were there, i always appreciate the gesture

vera
12-21-2010, 10:03 AM
Oh yes , that what he was doing for the first month , then i think he realised that its the finger of the hand that feeds him and decided to behave lol

Yup , very pretty , in stable conditiones they r easy to keep , but at spawn they lay only abt 20 eggs and fry said difficult to keep alive

Jennie

Vera, you considering breed wild bettas?

vera

I would like to try Pat , seems a small tank will do , the problem is that in Europe they r difficult to come across or come at high cost
