I have two juvies pearl PBs from Kenny via Al. Both are doing great but one is slowly losing it's spots. Here's shots of both.

Just genetics? Or is there a trick? BB tank, white painted bottom, white insulating styrofoam on back and sides (tank is in a cold corner). Water temp is 86 - thanks to my Jagger...

Thanks Eddie - when you start with good stock and have Al in your corner for advice it's hard to go wrong! Still trying to get them to eat Ken's Crumble as well as my adults RTs. Took your advice and painted the bottom of the tank. They pick at it some but prefer the FD Black Worms I get through Al - and his beef heart mix. Would really like them on the crumble better so I can auto feed them all day. They've grown a lot in the last 6 weeks!

I'm not worried about the spots just curious.

Hope you have a good holiday!

I see what you're talking about in the second pic. It's genetics. When you buy young fish they change as they age. The breeder can only predict how they will turn out as they mature based on what the pair look like and what they have thown in previous spawns. He can't be certain. There is always some variation.

I thought as much Liz - just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. I've read quite a bit about darker substrates bringing out peppering - so I was curious if there was something I was doing in raising them that may contribute to fading spots.

Thanks - they are both extremely healthy and great eaters - I suspect these will be beauties when they're older with or without a complete patterns!
