Hi,
I am looking into getting some discus and was wondering if my planted tank is big enough. The tank is 36inch x 14inch x 20inch (43 gallons).
Thanks, juliicory.

If anything, I'd keep a mated/confirmed pair in that tank. You will have to watch out on tankmates, just a few.

Thankyou for your reply Eddie. A confirmed mated pair of discus would definately be out of my price range. I was just looking into purchasing a few of juvies to keep with my tetras and breeding colony of cories.

don't get less than 6 juvie discus, cut back on the cory colony and maybe a dozen tetras(which CAN sometimes make good snacks)

Hi,
I was actually thinking of selling my breeding colony of julii and getting a few sterbai cories which are supposed to handle the higher temperatures alot better. I was going to grow up some cardinal tetras to put in with them. Would I have to get rid of any of the discus as they grow?

I would not try to grow out juvies in a 43 gallon planted tank.

Hi,
Would I be able to get 6 juvies and see if they pair off and just keep 1 pair? I cannot afford to get a confirmed pair.

The problem is growing them out in the planted tank at that size. You might be able to get away with 6 in a bare tank with some good effort.
