I am thrilled to have some young juvies in my tank that I bought from Bill!:) Usually Bill will not sell discus to people at this young age because they have not developed much color or shape yet, but that is part of the thrill for me with this group. I bought a variety as Bill had 4 tanks of young juvies going from 4 different pairs. Some of these are Red Scribblets, some are Red Scribblets X Cobalt, some are Altum Snakeskin X Flachen, and some are Altum Snakeskin X Stendker SnakeSkin. It will be very interesting to see them develop. For now these 32 discus are in a 75 gallon tank, getting 2 75% wc/day and 6 feedings per day. When they grow a bit more I will separate them into more tanks. I really enjoy them.
I must say that Bill is one of the nicest folks I have met here on Simply and I am very happy that he lives very close (just over 1 hr). Bill likes to keep things simple, but knows what he is doing as evidenced by quite a few stunning breeding pairs of discus that he has. It was a great pleasure visiting with Bill and the time flew by talking discus.:):)
My picture taking skills are terrible, but here are a few for now, they have been in the tank less than 24 hrs, but are eating anything that gets close to the water LOL. In some of these photos they are eating the FDBW I purchased from Al. They really like that stuff.

Thank all of you for the very kind words! I will keep you up to date with some pictures as they grow and develop. Its been a while since I had juvies and never this many at once, I'm sure I will learn more with this group. I'm keeping it simple, lots of good food and lots of wc's, cleaning....
Thanks again everyone, the credit goes to Bill.

I got some of these also.I would post pics, but don't know what I'm doing, need my guy to help me out.If you can all imagine together,I got nine of the Altum Snakeskin X Stendker, three blue scorpions, and one red scriblet that jumped into the net and Bill didn't feel like throwing back. They're in a 120galBB,and we shall see what will happen.

Thanks for all the kind words!
Jennie, I do a 50% wc in the a.m. and a 75 to 90% wc in the p.m. I feed Hikari frozen blood worms in the a.m before the wc, then FDBW after each wc. Also feed flakes (beefheart + Omega one) 2X per day on autofeeder while at work + feed Als beefheart/seafood mix before the p.m wc. and occassionally I soak some tetrabits and feed.
There are 16 in on 75 gallon tank and 16 in another 75 gallon tank. When they grow more I will split them more into 2 50 gallon tanks that are empty. Don't want to overcrowd.
I do wipe downs in the p.m. and filter cleaning in the p.m. Just yesterday I stopped the aquaclears and am strictly using sponge filters in the tanks of discus. I felt the aquaclear sponges retained too much fine particle waste no matter how much I cleaned.
Temp 86F.
Time for a wc :)

Hi Ardan
What is your water change setup like ?
2 tanks @ 75 gallons each = 150 gallons
50% wc in the AM = 75 gallons approximately
75% to 90% wc in the PM = 112.5 to 135 gallons approximately
That is about 200 gallons per day.
What kind of water do you use (RO/DI ?) and what do you store it in to get it to 86F?
Thanks
Steve

I'm lucky that Bill is only 7min,according to my gps, away from my step-daughter.I swing by every3-4 weeks to get blackworms.I was over bs'ing with him when he first saw that his wild's had bred.A wealth of info.If you ever get a chance,Eddie, worth it to see the mad scientist's lair.

You're doing a great job raising them Ardan. You took them guys when they were small. Much smaller than I usually ever release any. Looks like Altum SS's and Scribblets...Bill

Thanks Jay!

You're doing a great job raising them Ardan. Thanks Bill! It means a lot coming from you.:)
There are 4 varieties, not sure if I got pics of them all., Some of the varieties are growing a bit slower or were younger. All in all, I am very happy how they are turning out.
Yes they were very small and a large group of over 30. They are in 2 75 gallons now.
Working a lot of overtime, so I have the auto feeders going with beefheart flakes while I'm gone. Did have a couple malfunctions with the feeders (batteries died, opening plugged LOL ), but all in all things are going well.
By the end of summer, I think I'll have some whoppers:D

Thanks for the kind words.:)
