Did you ask to feed the fish while at the LFS?
Stay away from feeding any FBW and just try some flake tomorrow.
I can't remember, but where is the tank and is it a high traffic area?

Yupp. They gave them some food, but the lady tried to catch them first so they kinda hid while the other fish went after the food, But they looked really healthy and i checked for pinched forehead and stomach and the eyes and fins and shape. all was good. What does FBW stand for? and noope the tank is in my room, trust me no traffic in there.

FBW stands for frozen blood worms.
If you feed these to often they may not take others foods.
Sounds like someone is not going to school tomorrow.

Garett,

Although pictures and video are not the greatest...it does appear to have settled in.
You very well know that one discus will not cut it and will show signs of discomfort and possible problems to deal with.
What maybe a male and looks to be max 4" may have exceeded it's growth judging by the eye size/body ratio.
I want to say Red Turk?????
If this was the best they had.....I would not spend another $50 per when you decide to get more.
Turn to April and get a small group of 2.5"-3" where you know your getting quality.
Keep us updated and try to get better pics.

I hate to drop a bomb on you because you were so exited, but that discus is not worth $50. Like stated before. Save your money and get quality discus from April. However, b careful because bringing a fish from an lfs usually means bringing some type of disease too.

It looks like red turk and Garret, it does not look very healthy in the pics you provided...can you post better pics??

I agree. It is not at all worth $50 . maybe $25? My parents said if i can actually keep this one alive for atleast a month. they let me get more. so, ill probably be able to get from april.

Better deworm this one Garret.. keep close eye on it..beef it up, it's very thin, which may indicate internal parasites of some kind and garret, my avatar is a red turk with good shape

Garett,

You can start on W/C anytime now....."Aged Water Please".
The photos show crap already on the tank floor or is it grains of gravel?
I knew the "Boy vs Discus" soap would extend into a second season.
Don't add any meds until you check with SD because we have to get you through the month.
Don't over feed!
Within a couple of days, check to see if he/she will take food from you hand.

Congrats on your first Discus! My two cents: Taking good pictures can be difficult until you get used to it, but you'll learn. Try to post some more and for now keep the tank clean, daily water changes with dechlorinated water of course, and keep us posted on how s/he is behaving, eating, and monitor it's waste for color etc. With more pics and or information, we'll be happy to help you along the way. Meds only when needed, but first we need to determine if and what is needed.

Have you been testing your water and know how to keep it for discus? Is your tank fully cycled?

Best of luck!

Thanks guys (:

Ralf- im ahead of you :P i put out a bucket last night, and did a W/C after school. For the bottom its most of the gravel i couldn't get. Dx He's been eating abit. not much though. D: He is getting less shy though, and is showing alittle more colors.

David - Yeah the pictures make him look abit bad. so ill take a few right away. Yup, im doing my water changes. i did about i think 2gallons today ..(thats how much the bucket holds). and his waste is not white, its normal. Behaving is alittle shy but its pretty normal. And yes i've had this tank up since last feburary.

Hendri- Thanks for the info :)

Good job Garett.

If you can ask your Dad to get you a clean 5 gallon pale....you can double what you are doing now or find an Italian family in your neighbourhood and ask for one....we always have 5g wine pales hanging around.
What size is your tank...20g or 25g tall?
As David mentioned...prestine water conditions and you should be fine.

Ok. lol. that shouldn't be too hard to find xP And the tank is a 30gallon. bow front. so its fairly tall and spacey. Yup ive got my testing kit, so i do a weekly test of ammonia and nitrite on both my tanks.

Sounds good... you're new arrival is mostly shy and still adjusting to its new home. As for shape and coloring...providing a good varied diet and consistent good water quality will remedy most anything in time.

Thats great to hear Garret.
I could very well think that in your care and some minimal suggestions from SD members, you have rescued this Discus from your LFS and offered it a much healthy and happier life.
